I have a low gpa in highschool of 2.3 and my sat score is a 1420. My extracurricular include being being a member of the advanced orchestra in my school and being a member of the chess team. I also have volunteering experience and internship experience at a local hospital. Is stony brook or any suny schools still a possibility for me? I took ap euro,ap comp sci, ap english, ap government, and apush in highschool. My essay is pretty good. I wanna know if i have a chance with stony brook despite my atrocious gpa. Thank you
No one can really say.
But I think that what could save you-- and it’s too late now if it hasn’t already happened-- is if the letter from your counselor included an explanation of why someone obviously so bright has such a low GPA. If there was some concrete reason-- illness or some other concrete issue other than immaturity-- it might go a long way.
That said, there are light years between Stony Brook and some of the other SUNY schools. Take a look at Morrisville State, Alfred State, SUNY Old Westbury, SUNY Delhi…
And know that there are a number of community colleges upstate with dorms. Look at Tompkins-Cortland, Herkimer, Adirondack, Sullivan… All are open admission. You could go for 2 years, get your Associate’s Degree, and work on that GPA so you could then transfer to another SUNY Campus.
I have a 3.2 gpa and 980 on my SAT what are my chances
Also the application deadline for stony brook is January 15 can I take another SAT than send it to them later after the deadline
