I recently visited SUNY Geneseo and am pretty set on applying there, but I would like to know what my chances are of getting in. I will be assuming what my scenario will be like when I am applying after the Fall 2015 semester.
I am a transfer student with a 3.6 GPA. I am pre-law, interested in majoring in Philosophy at Geneseo, and I will be getting my associate’s in Criminal Justice after the Spring 2016 semester.
Extra-Curriculars and Employment: I am in Phi Theta Kappa, in addition to being the Student Trustee for the academic year of 2015-16, Peer Mentor/Orientation Leader on-campus for the academic year of 2015-16, student assistant at the counseling center on-campus starting August 2015, and have maintained employment for 2 years off-campus, where I work 25 hours/week on average. For Summer 2015 I interned 80 hours unpaid at City Court working under a judge, analyzing tax cases and auditing court sessions.
Volunteer Work: Fundraiser and volunteer at March of Dimes events, Blood donor since 2012
In high school I went to Boys’ State and joined the video crew there. I also played percussion in band for 6 years.
CONCERNS: One concern is that I only graduated with a 3.4 GPA in high school, but wasn’t sure if my improvement in community college since then would help offset this.
Furthermore, I realize “rigorous courses” are strongly favored in prospective students, but wasn’t sure what qualified as “rigorous”? (Physics, History, English?) Would U.S. History in community college be the equivalent to AP U.S. history in high school?
I’m new to posting on this site so I’m certain I missed various other details, so let me know if there is anything else that can help determine my chances of getting accepted here. I appreciate your time!
