Hello, I’m currently a senior in Southern California and UCLA has always been my dream school. I’ve maintained a 4.69 weighted GPA and am currently ranked 10th in my class of 532 (I was 2nd just last year). Overall, I have taken 8 AP classes (including 4 this year), getting 5’s on the AP Spanish IV exam, the AP Calc BC exam, and the AP English Language exam, and a 3 on the AP Biology exam. I’ve also been in MUN since freshman year. This spring I took the SAT and got a 1420 and I really don’t want to take it again if it’s not necessary. I’m a 1st generation son of Mexican immigrants and will also be the first in my family to attend a university. What would my chances be of getting into UCLA? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Your W GPA seems to be good, but what is your UC GPA? (sophomore + junior grades only)
A 1420 on the new SAT is a 2020 on the old SAT, meaning:
Your score is more than its average of 1940.
Your score is more than 50% rank (1790-2190)
I would take the SAT again, it may be quite helpful if you scored a bit higher. Though GPA is more important than ST scores (for UCs), a higher score is always better—regardless of the case.
UCLA does not take into consideration an applicant’s class rank.
What is your intended major?
Take note that UCLA is a reach for pretty much everyone, and is highly selective.

Are you in-state CA resident? Intended major?
First generation status is very helpful.
Really? Is it actually helpful? How much?
Check this link in regards to California UC enrollments: 42% were First Generation.

Also check the common dataset/ First Gen is considered:

For Sophomore - Junior only:
Unweighted: 3.95
Weighted *4.68
Weighted and Capped: 4.32
Intended major is engineering (computer/electrical/mechanical; still not decided yet)
And yes, I am an in-state resident
Freshman admit rate for UCLA GPA range of 4.2+ was 53% in 2015. You look like a competitive applicant and have a good chance at an acceptance.
