I messed up pretty badly my first year and a half of community college and in fall 2009 had a GPA of a 2.75. But I made straight A's in spring and now have a GPA of a 3.19. My dream school is UCSB and plan on making the 3.2 by end of fall requirement for TAG. I'm also an American Indian and am applying under that ethnicity to try and boost my chances.

Applying to UCSB as a psychology major with TAG approval hopefully by the end of fall 2010.

3.19 GPA overall

all prerequisites completed by spring 2011

IGETC all ready completed and certified

EC: loads of volunteering at two different preschools, two different churches, camp counseling working with elementary age and younger kids as well as being captain of my varsity volleyball team all four years of high school and other honor student like awards.

I also made dean's list for Spring 2011 for having straight A's and received my AA degree.

So any chance of getting in? I also am scared about not making any A's this semester and staying somewhere above a 3.0 but below a 3.2 :( do you think i'd still get in? My worst case situation seems that I drop my three academic classes and obtain 3 W's but stay with my 1 unit volleyball class, get an A and thus above a 3.2 and get in that way. would that even theoretically work? and how bad would three W's look? I currently have none.HELP.

They changed the TAG agreement for Fall 2010 from having a 3.0 to having a 3.2 by end of Fall 2010. So I have to get somewhere around a 3.22 for this specific semester and its stressing me out for some reason :(

you’ve gotten straight A’s before, what makes you think you can’t do it again?

if anything, being on the borderline of having a three two SHOULD be motivation enough for you to go for a four oh. you’ve made it this far, might as well go out with a bang

3 W’s wont look bad, AS LONG as you have ALL your major pre reqs AND igetc completed already. hell, you could have taken the semester off if you already had a 3.2. if worse comes to worst, drop 2 classes and stick it out with volleyball and the easiest of your other 3 academic classes - though i recommend doing this as a last resort, the less W’s the better.

your almost there, don’t lose motivation now … you’ll be partying it up at sb in no time [;

Just make sure you meet the 3.2 requirement and finish IGETC and you’ll be in, regardless of what your transcript looks like before your spring semester. I was in the same boat, my GPA was somewhere around a 2.4 for my first year, but I worked my ass off and ended up transferring (with tag) with at 3.17. Sucks that they raised the GPA reqs, but like Andrizzle said, just keep on track and you’ll be fine
