Chances of Getting into UCSC

What are my chances of getting into UCSC? My GPA is as follows: Unweighted: 2.33
Weighted: 2.66

I have an 1890 in my SAT, and got a 4 for APUSH. This is my senior year, and I'm taking AP Stats, AP Chem, AP Comp Sci, Jap 4 Honors, and AP Econ.

In terms of school, I've generally tried to take harder classes but always drop short of expectations. I've only taken one AP last junior year (APUSH), and two honors (Physics and Pre-calc).

I've been a Boy Scout for 6 years and am currently an Eagle Scout
I have numerous service hours (can we count BSA service hours towards "school service hours" like in the application form?)
I'm held leadership positions in Interact and several other clubs.
I've been taking the required quota required for the UC's, the only thing that worries me is my incredibly horrible GPA, and was wondering if UCSC will definitely cut me off, or will I have a chance.

Thanks.

Chances are very low with your GPA. Try the community college route or try some state schools.

Yeah I don’t think you’ll get in with that GPA. Sorry :(. You should still apply though. Who knows? Maybe you’ll get lucky.

I don’t think the application will allow you to submit with a UC GPA under 3.0.

^This is correct, though I believe they have a system in which you can use a higher SAT to compensate for a <3.0 GPA.

Either way, sorry OP, I very much doubt your chances at UCSC. I barely got in myself.

Chances look rather slim for you. HOWEVER, I know of a person who got into an UC with a GPA and SAT not too different from yours, so there is still hope!

Thanks to all of you who responded, I’ll just apply anyways, but I’ll also look into other schools. Again, thanks!

[University of California - Admission by exam](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/freshman/requirements/examination/index.html)

"Admission by exam

If you don’t meet UC’s minimum requirements, you may be considered for admission to UC if you earn high scores on the ACT With Writing or SAT Reasoning Test and two SAT Subject Tests.

To qualify by examination, you must achieve a minimum UC Score total — calculated according to the instructions below — of 410 (425 for nonresidents). In addition, you must earn a minimum UC Score of 63 on each component of the ACT or SAT Reasoning Test and on each SAT Subject Test. "

Wait, so does that mean I have to also take subject tests? Because I haven’t taken any yet, and it’s senior year…does that mean I’m doomed?

That’s the way I’m reading it, and you’d have to average about 690 on two, and on each part of the reasoning test.

BTW, my son did not get in with the same SAT and a 3.1 or so UC GPA. And he applied to, but was waitlisted (and later admitted) at UCR.

Not “doomed” though; he got in a lot of other places.
