Chances of getting into UNC?

<p>I'm really interested in University of Chapel Hill, but I'm not sure I'll get in. I'd really appreciate it if someone could look at my credentials and give me a basic idea of my chances here :).</p>

<p>This is gonna be pretty extensive and ridiculous; I apologize to and thank in advance anyone brave enough to tackle reading it (especially since there are probably multiple spelling and grammar errors chillin' in this novel of a post). </p>

<p>I...
- am a resident of North Carolina
- am a junior at a well-respected and supposedly difficult high school (Enloe)
- am the daughter of a UNC alumnus
- haven't taken the SAT yet (but plan on making the required UNC scores)
- have had a part-time legitimate job since freshman year
- have been playing ice hockey outside of school on a team since the age of 10, and recently joined the Enloe club ice hockey team
- have played a variety of rec league teams; sports like softball, swimming, soccer, etc.
- will be one of two Editor in Chief's for the newspaper staff next year, and have been on the staff since sophomore year. This year I've taken on the position of photo editor. I've had several articles and pictures published under the Eagle's Eye - Enloe's paper.
- have pretty extensive skill with HTML/CSS and web design, which is all self-taught. I also know my way around a graphics program and can figure most computer-based issues in a heartbeat
- play a variety of instruments (about nine total) ranging from bass to drums to ukulele to harmonica, and will be playing at local shows this summer
- was in middle school orchestra for bass for all three years, and at one point performed at Carnegie Hall
- started a real club at my high school, and while it might be Harry Potter Club, it still puts me in a position of leadership
- took orchestra I in high school last year to improve my technique on bass and enrolled in it this year to learn cello
- received a perfect 20 on my writing test sophomore year
- will probably be partaking in some sort of community service project over the summer</p>

<p>As far as grades go, I really don't have the best ones around, and while I've never gotten a D or F on my report card, I almost always make a C in one or two classes. I do, however, usually have more As than Bs. Currently I've got an unweighted GPA of 3.8 and an unofficial weighted of about 3.2.</p>

<p>My courses this year have been:
AP English III - B average
AP US History - A average
Chemistry - A average
Algebra II - B average
Orchestra I - A average
Honors Spanish III - C average
Honors Newspaper - A average</p>

<p>My courses next year will be:
AP English IV
AP Government & Politics
Music Theory
Honors Spanish IV
Honors Newspaper II
Advanced Functions and Modeling (I've no great shakes at math)
Creative Writing I
Art History II (I took Art History I freshman year)</p>

<p>I've got NO idea what I want to do with my life at this point. I generally excel at writing, music, sports, and making people laugh. </p>

<p>Please let me know what you think and/or what I can do to improve my chances.</p>

<p>THANKS :)!</p>

<p>Well Hello, Abbi Pittman :)</p>

<p>GPA could be a problem here. Cs are not good.

Please report back to us, we are willing to help. But I think SAT scores will be crucial in this case.</p>

<p>Weighted GPA’s are usually higher? I think you are confused on that.</p>

<p>Chapel Hill admissions expects to see an A/B average “and if there’s a C it better be pretty lonely.” But don’t worry, because your junior year of high school is a great time to redeem yourself! It is often considered the year that matters most, and since you have an idea of where you want to go you can keep that in mind, and make sure you have the grades for your dream! (UNC at Chapel Hill (you make a typo - I always make that exact same mistake! haha) is a great place for someone with an undecided major because it’s strong in multiple disciplines, and as a large school, has lots of options.) Being able to play that many instruments, and playing at Carnegie Hall, is a really great “hook,” so you could focus on that in your application’s essay.</p>

<p>In the meantime, get good grades and study for the SAT or ACT!</p>
