Chances of getting into University of Michigan as a transfer

Hi.
I am new to this so go easy on me haha.
Anyway, I wanted to know my chances of transferring over to UofM as a sophomore. Here are my stats. I know they’re pretty bad so please dont judge me. Its just theyre offering free tuition as of 2018 for students whose parents income is $60,000 or lower. Anyway:

HS GPA: 3.56 W, probably ~3.2 UW
ACT: 23 SAT: 1150 (570 read 580 math)

I started off HS VERY badly. I had like a 2.8 end of freshman year. I took some weighted classes and was able to get it up by senior year. I plan on going to CC for a semester then MSU in the spring. Im hoping to do excellent in both CC & MSU so my chances wont be horrible. I got deferred then rejected from UofM this past year to provide a bit of insight.

Again, I really dont need the criticism, because I already know how bad my stats are. So for those with 4.0+ gpa and 30+ act or whatever, please know that I realize how my chances are significantly lower then yours or other people with those stats. I really just want honest opinions on my chances. Thanks so much for reading all this and for your honest opinions!

Also, i was in marching band, volunteered a lot at a homeless shelter for 4+ years, and was captain of the swim team. (again, not great ECs, I know)

You should go to community college 2 years then apply to umich and msu as a transfer. Umich prefers junior transfers. Washtenaw community college is a feeder to umich

Focus on doing well at CC and/or MSU. Keep ahead in your homework. Take every class seriously. Seek extra help where you need it. If you look after today, then down the road you will have more options.

I think that you need a pretty strong turn around in grades for this to be an option. The strong turn around in grades will only happen if there is a very strong academic effort.

I recently spoke to admissions about this for my daughter and based on what they told me it is not as difficult as expected. One year of college is plenty to transfer. Just do well and make sure that your classes taken are compatible with the transferable classes listed on UM’s web site. They told me 3.0 GPA was required but 3.5 and above were the most competitive candidates. If you are serious about going to a university like UM then I recommend getting close to a 4.0 at the CC or MSU level. It’s not just about getting in but being able to succeed once there.

Thank you very much, it was very helpful. While I did not do great freshman or half of sophomore year, I really picked it up by the end of 10th grade. By then I never had a semester gpa that was below 3.7 . And while i realize even that isnt much to brag about, I got a 4.36 first semester senior year and 4.56 second semester. I say all that to say I feel my overall adaptation skills, time management, and work ethic have improved over the four years. I think I will adjust well and do well in college. Just have to keep my eyes on the prize!
