Hello there, I graduated from UVA pre-law in 2011 and still am at the school working on my law degree. I’m sure you’ll love UVA as your stats almost promise you admission. However, UVA is extremely selective on out of state students. Judging by your high GPA and test scores I would assume you have pretty good chances but one of my best friends is an admissions officer who explained to me just last week that UVA is looking toward becoming a more domestic university (meaning they want to select more kids from in state and less kids from out of state) With that being in mind I’m giving you a realistic 50% chance. Don’t worry about it, if you aren’t accepted to UVA I’m sure you’ll get in somewhere else! Good luck!

To be completely honestly, I’m not sure it is a good use of your time to even consider applying to the University of Virginia. This fine institution prefers its our of state students to be highly active within their school, region, and state. Seeing that you are not actively involved in an organization reaching a large number of people, your chances of admission are slim. Students we typically take from out of state have at least a 2250 on the SAT and have started a charity, business, or club of some kind. To be blunt, I don’t think you have made an impact on that many of your peers. Also, I see that you plan to go into the field of engineering, but with your lowest section of the SAT reasoning test being mathematics (not even a 700), that is quite a fantasy. But good luck!

I think that’s ridiculous. What’s your affiliation with UVA? And you haven’t seen my application; the extracurriculars were a few listed on top of my job, school and county rank, other varsity sports, etc. I understand my math is low, but according to the UVA site, the mid 25% range is 640-740… And I haven’t gotten a B in highschool. To say I have a less fortunate chance? Maybe. But to completely reject me is a bit intolerant.

UVA puts more weight on GPA than on test scores, and your GPA is almost perfect. Your test scores are solid. Your ECs are fine. I think they are very likely to offer you admission.
