Are you a senior?
What is your unweighted GPA, core courses only on a 4 point scale?
What proportion of your classes are honors/AP/IB?
What is your approximate class rank? Val, Sal, or #3? Upper 5%, 10% of your class? Are you taking the hardest courses offered by your school? What do you think your GC and teacher recommendations will say about you?? That you are the top student in your school? TP 5? Best they’ve seen in 10 years? Those are things that count heavily these days.
What possible major?
And what do you do/who are you, beyond activism and performance? That raises the question, any hands-on community service, working directly with needs around you?Giving lectures and making videos isn’t it.
Also, rather than make us look up the 80th percentile, maybe just tell the scores. If you mean something around 1200, that’s an issue for these colleges.
I’m a junior and I’m looking into a political science major. I’m not too sure about my class rank but I’m assuming it’s 2. I took AP Bio sophomore year and am taking AP Lang, AP Psych and AP Gov this year. For community service, I toured and performed around my state to spread anti-bullying awareness. Also, I’m in the works of creating a drug awareness program for my district. My unweighted GPA is a 4.18 I’m not sure the scale (I’ve never gotten anything lower than an A). My PSAT score was around a 1200, I am hiring a tutor to help me study though. I think my recommendations will be good, I am in very close contact with both my guidance counselor and my teachers as well.
Also, I go to school in New Haven and Yale works with my school.
You can talk to your GC, look at your school’s Naviance data, and see where you stand. #2 in the class is great. If you’ve had straight A’s, then you have a 4.0 on a 4.0 scale unweighted. If schools remain test optional, or if you get scores that are the kind that Yale has been accepting from your school, your chances are as good as anyone’s. Unfortunately, as you know, Yale’s accept rates are very low. Straight up, from most schools that have no association with any given highly selective college, a 1200, even 1300 SAT is too low for much chance of acceptance unless there is some mitigating factor or hook.
