<p>gpa sucks, about 4.2-3 (not sure, we have a 5.0 ap classes and 4.0 everything else)</p>

vice president of HOSA, organized health fair - 1 year
parliamentarian for BPA - 2 years
Academic decathlon - geography and history captain, 2 years
NHS - chaired a few projects, tutored freshmen</p>

<p>jobs - intern at Texas Southern University, worked as professor's assistant, 35+ hrs a week for 1 summer</p>

<p>volunteering -
around 250+ hours for 3 summers at a camp for MI students at my old mid school
every thanksgiving, local soup kitchen, cooking dinners and doing laundry
tutored kids at church for reading/writing SAT</p>

<p>do i have a good chance at the mcnair scholars award? is gpa and class rank a huge factor? we're getting ours on friday, i'm pretty sure i'm in top 15 percent =(</p>

<p>oh yeah, forgot to mention, i go to a pretty competitive high school, ranked by us weekly</p>

<p>and i play guitar (self-taught) for 2 years
piano for 8 years, passed the royal board of examiners with all merits and distinctions
also play in my church worship team (piano that is)</p>

<p>McNair is highly competitive, but i think your chance at Honors itself is excellent. Look up the Lieber Scholarship at SC, thats awarded to National Merit Finalists outright.It can also be combined with the McNair or other levels of scholarships like the Cooper , thats what happened to S when he entered :-). Its well worth the effort to do the Honors supplement…and USC Honors College loves Texas kids (…the McNair connection)</p>
