I took my first GMAT practice test last night and got a 640 without prepping or anything on the mba.com downloadable tests. I plan on taking the exam somewhere in the middle of January, so could I get that 640 up to a 750 or so?

PS. If this helps, I got a 2230 on my SAT....

I’m assuming you are still in college since your SAT is out of 2400. I think 640 is a respectable score cold turkey. I think it’s definitely possible and very likely that you can score above 700. Why do you want a 750? GMAT and SAT are different exams, I don’t think SAT is a good GMAT predictor, only for ballpark.

I did really well on SAT Math but only managed 76 percentile on the GMAT Quant.
For reference, I had a 1510 (out of 1600) on my SAT (790M/720V). I scored 700 on GMAT right out of college, retook it again 3 years later for 710. I prepped for about 3 weeks.

haha doesn’t matter, I got my score yesterday and I got a 700 I realized in the process that a 750 really doesn’t matter…X___X yeah i am still in college, i’m a sophomore

good job on your SAT@

how does a 750 not matter??? It’s the competitive score for a lot of top programs.

actually 700 is a competitive score for a lot of top programs, 750 is just amazing…if you can get 750 then hats off to you

Ah. I kept hearing people talk about 750 as a target here on the forums, so I thought maybe it was the competitive score to get into a top 20mba program

um…I already took the gmat and got a 700 on January 21st…:)

Thanks for the help anyway Hope it helps someone else :)

haha, willpower, this site has much higher standards than colleges do, so you’re more than fine if you get a 700
