Hey everyone. I’m currently a junior whose only dream is to go to UW-Madison. Cheesy, yes.
My current GPA is 3.83. Unweighted gpa isn’t too far behind. I’m currently taking one AP class right now, and I have an A- in there. My junior year grades are pretty nice–four A+s, few As, an A-, and a B in pre-calculus. I’m ranked 18 out of 150 kids, which is bad, but I’m working super hard on it.
I do A LOT of clubs. Freshman year, I was student council treasurer, Nation Junior Honor Society, orchestra, anime club, and the homecoming decorating committee. Sophomore year, I was a regular student council member, orchestra, international club, best buddies, homecoming decorating committee, yearbook, mentors (tutoring thing), forensics (public speaking), library aide, and I helped with lights for the school play. I also won Student of the Year that year. Junior year, I’m currently prom committee, forensics, student council secretary, the newspaper, yearbook, the online literature magazine at my school, mentors, international club, orchestra, and national honor society. I was also the tennis team manager and I was in the fall play. Overall in my high school career, I have tons of volunteer hours to present.
So yeah, I do a lot of clubs, but no sports. Would the admissions office care if I spoke two languages? Fuzhounese Chinese was my first language. It was shortly followed by Manadarin Chinese, and finally, English. I also took two years of Spanish. I help my parents translate and do a lot of their paperwork. I also help their friends with translating and paperwork as well. I’ve helped my family and this one other family get health insurance. I helped my parents buy our condo with the paperwork and the bank transfer. You know, all that fancy stuff. But, I’m not sure if the things I just listed would give me a better shot at Madison. What do you think?
Oh, test score wise… Well, I haven’t taken the ACTs yet, but I took the new PSAT and got a 1100 out of 1520, I believe. Freshman year, I took a practice ACT and the predicted score should be 24-30 if I took it now. I’m a bad test taker, so I’m scared that I won’t get a high enough of a score to get into Madison. And my GPA isn’t the best either. I feel like all I can count on is my activities, but those don’t give me much of a boost. I took World History AP last year and got a 3 on the exam, but again, I don’t think they care about that.
Thank you for reading this! It’s been on my mind for a long time.
