Chances of me getting into andover or deerfield

I have applied to both Deerfield Academy and Andover but my parents dont want me to go to visit the campus until they know i have a shot at getting in

About Me:

Im an international student and have been my entire life

Ive lived in 6 countries and know 7 languages

I'm currently living in Istanbul Turkey

I'm interested in applying to the 11th grade

I'm currently in the IB Diploma Program but my parents and i agree that it would be better to lose a year so i can take AP Courses

My grades are currently 6s and 5s in the diploma program

I'm in lots of extracurriculars and am on: The school newspaper, Model United Nations, Student Council, Environmental Awareness Council, Cross Country, Tennis, Swimming, and Judo

I also do volunteer work with little children and am working on a project to create a school in Zambia

I applied using my PSAT score instead of SSAT Score and was in the 86th Percentile

Just wanted to know how my chances of getting in are and how many people actually apply every year ?

I think you’d be a great applicant. Do you have a particular talent that will make you stand out?

Usually it’s harder for international applicants to get in… especially Asian Chinese/Korean. But you’re different.

I’m not familiar with PSAT scoring system/percentiles, so no idea about that…

Just make sure your essays are interesting to read and make you stand out! And show that you’re a friendly person at the interview.

I am Pakistani and Canadian

does that affect my chances ?

also i would say my biggest strength would probably be my understanding of cultures across the globe because of my upbringing

I guess that’s more unique than being Chinese or Korean.

What did you write your essays about? (doesnt have to be very specific…) Because you need to make sure that you demonstrated that you understand a lot of different cultures, and that you’ve had a very unique upbringing. Just listing out all the countries you’ve lived in won’t tell them anything.

Are you male or female?
86% PSAT score, is it among college-bounds or overall?

it is amung all other 11th graders who took the test

and Im male

I havnt finished my Andover application yet but my Deerfield application is finished

i wrote mainly about global citizenship, my strengths and weaknesses, my interests, ambitions etc.

for the quote i used one from my dad about moving forward and growing every step of the way

Does not applying for financial aid affect my admission chances ?

For Deerfield, it gives you a very slight advantage, but not a significant one. For Andover, no, it’s needs blind. If Andover wants a student, they will get them.

Thank you also if i wanted to apply to other schools like choate should i even bother applying this late ?

so anyone ?

I think you have a HUGE chance in getting accepted into both schools…

Your project of creating a school in Zambia and that you know 7 languages + lived in 7 countries is what will REALLY get you in.

I am applying for 11th grade also, I hope you and I get accepted to Andover :))
good luck :D

well you seem like a great applicant. I’m new on these forums and I’m totally amazed by your application. u’ve lived in 6 countries+ 7 languages. how old are you really?

btw do u play any instruments? It seems like people on cc are paying so much attention to that. I dont play any instruments and I wonder if it affects my chances of getting in.

Anyway good like to you.I hope you’ll get in.

From Andover, “The incoming class of 150 girls and 165 boys represents a median class rank in the top 1 percent and a median SSAT total score of 94 percent. Students will arrive on the Andover campus in September from 33 states and 25 foreign countries” - 2010 Aug.

you have a great chance! definitely apply/ visit!

Thank you :)

i don’t play any instruments right now but i used to play the guitar, and took a course on the history of music in my old school

would that help ?

You should be aight for Deerfield. I go there now. I’m pretty sure we don’t have anyone from Turkey so that should help ya. Focus on an activity that you can dominate at.
I would say you probably have an 80% chance of getting in, but who knows? Sometimes its just luck

Thank you, but I’m not Turkish, I’ve just lived in turkey for the past year

I’m Canadian and Pakistani (mom’s Canadian dad’s Pakistani) but ive been living all over the place

does being Canadian help me in admissions at all ?

Canadian - Maybe. Pakistani - Yes. But South-East Asia is represented well on the boarding school scene, and Canada is also. Your advantage will be your knowledge of 7 languages. Are you totally fluent?

I strongly believe that there is a great possibility that you’d be accepted into both these schools~ i mean, your stats are great
…but just a word of advice–you ABSOLUTELY need to visit these schools!! I myself wanted to go to these two schools as well, but after visiting the places, i eliminated half of them (I won’t be saying which one) after realizing that the vibe of that school didn’t suit my tastes.
I know you live far away (so visiting the campuses might be a problem), but it would be a shame for you to attend a school that you aren’t comfortable learning in… and besides, you only have two to visit :)

p.s: i know this sounds bad, but could you chance me too–i really need some helpful feed back as well ;)

I would love to visit, but my parents will not let me visit until i actually get in

and I’m Fluent in english, urdu, hindi, arabic, and french

i speak some turkish, and some spanish as well

i also understand some russian, and german but not enough to say i speak the language
