Chances of transferring from CC to Michigan State University

Hello,

I was actually a horrible student in high school. So badly it's not even worth mentioning. After graduating I went into the military for 4 years. Now that I'm out I want to get into MSU.

My concern is with a class that I took at Lansing Community College. I failed a pre college level math class do to irresponsibility and lack of tutoring. Here was my grades for that semester:

MATH_45 - 0.0
Composition 1 - 4.0
Political Science - 4.0

So that put me at a 2.6.
Since then, I've moved back home to save money. This past semester I did much better.
Sociology - 4.0
Composition 2 - 4.0
Intermediate Algebra - 3.5

Next semester I'm going to step it up and take 16 credits. College algebra, astronomy, Russian, and art history.

My first concern is the average gpa for transfer students. I've heard that I needed a 3.5 or above to get into State. The only way I could get that 0.0 from LCC off my transcript is by retaking it and I'm nowhere near Lansing now.

So of course, the plan is to shoot for all 4.0's. I may be over thinking it a bit.

Sorry this is so long. I just want to know what the average transfer GPA is. Also any tips/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I’m a little confused to what your exact GPA currently is.

I understand after one semester your GPA was: 2.67

Now after your 2nd semester I’m a little confused how one could get a 3.5 in a class? At my school, like most schools, a B+ is a 3.3 and a 3.7 is A-, thus a 3.5 from a class is impossible.

Regardless w/ the 3.5 computed your average GPA after 2 semesters is: 3.25

Hypothetically next semester if you take 4 classes and get As (4.0) in all of them your cumulative GPA after 3 semester will be: 3.55

You may not need to retake MATH_45 at Lansing Community College to get yourself above the 3.5 you said you needed.

You will get in. MSU has a 70% admission rate… (70% of the people who apply get accepted) especially if you are an in-state transfer…Go Green!! (former MSU student) :-)
