My dreams were shattered at Berkeley. I failed to declare my major. My social life here is nonexistent because of the rigor. I absolutely HATE this school with a burning passion. That’s all I’m saying.
How difficult would it be to transfer to UCSD/UCLA/SLO for Computer Science with a 3.6 overall GPA? Also can I use my UC personal statement from 2 years ago? I want to get out of this hellhole ASAP.
Is it too much work? Do you find yourself basically not doing much other than studying, going to class, eating, sleeping, and wishing you were somewhere else?
Have you been there 2 years? That is what I am guessing from your post, but more clarity might help.
Sorry for not providing much enough info. I’m transitioning to sophomore year and I SWEAR… EVERYDAY I regret not SIR’ing to my other schools like UCLA. I feel completely miserable here because I’m forced to study 24/7 in order to meet the GPA requirement for CS. I don’t get much sleep and I recently failed to declare. And I’m only interested in CS, I can’t see myself doing anything else. I want to go to any other school without a crazy GPA requirement for CS. I don’t have any back up plans here.
https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major indicates that a 3.6 overall GPA falls below the 25th percentile of transfer admits and enrollees for CS at UCLA and UCSD. In addition, if your CS GPA is lower (presumably under 3.3 which is the threshold for L&S CS at UCB), that may be disadvantageous when applying as a CS major.
If you wish to transfer as a CS major, apply widely among the UCs (not just UCLA and UCSD) and CSUs (not just CPSLO and SJSU).
“…I regret not SIR’ing to my other schools like UCLA. I feel completely miserable here because I’m forced to study 24/7 …”
If the Cal’s rigior has been your main problem, what makes you believe that you would have felt differently in UCLA?
If the OP had direct admission to CS at UCLA, then the stress level would be lower, due to not having to meet a 3.3 GPA to get into the CS major.
However, if s/he did not have direct admission to UCLA (or UCSD), then getting into CS at those schools would have been even more difficult than at UCB.
A 3.6 from Berkeley is good, and I am assuming you have good high school stats. I think you can easily transfer to a different UC, but UCLA isn’t a walk in the park either. I suggest writing a new statement. Also, isn’t the application deadline over? Would you do one more year at Berkeley and apply going into your junior year?
I go to UCSD. While I am not a CS major, lots of my friends are or wish to get into cs major. I heard that GPA cut off has been either 3.9 or 4.0 in past three-quarters. In fact, just like you, few of my friends are planning on transferring to another school to pursue cs degree. I am not sure how cs program works at UCLA but at least UCSD has a similar problem. So unless you apply and accepted directly to CS program, I would not choose UCSD because you will have the same experience here.
Re: #7
UCSD CS is more competitive than UCB L&S CS to get into for initially undeclared students. Currently, UCSD undeclared students must earn a 3.3 GPA to enter the lottery for the CS major:

Previously, UCSD undeclared students needed a 3.9 or 4.0 GPA to get into the CS major.
