Hello! I am currently in community college; as of now my GPA is 4.0 but I'm not sure what it will be this semester, which is only my second semester. My SAT scores are in the 1500 range, not the average scores of people who have gotten in, and I don't think I have enough credits to forgo having to submit these scores...my only extra curricular I have, that has been steady with me through childhood, high school and now is violin.

I was originally going to wait until Spring 2015 but I am in an uncomfortable situation currently and would like to try to transfer as early as Fall 2014. I believe the deadline is May 1st so this application will probably seem very rushed...

Should I try and apply, or should I wait for Spring? Or, if I apply now, and don't get accepted, does anyone know the chances of students being accepted the next time they apply? Fordham is my top choice.

Thank you for anyone who reads/responds! I apologize if this is posted in the wrong place!

Hmmm. While its true that colleges often dont have to report the scores of admitted transfer students, its also true that they want all students to succeed socially and financially and academically. Unfortunately, they use the SAT as their guidepost. So I dont think they will change their views with your present scores. Its better if you retook the SAT, now more relaxed with your community college experience in hand and hopefully raise that score a bunch. Fordhams average math/reading scores are approaching 1300/1600 scale. Around 650 in each section.

Furthermore Fordham is not a good place to go for a violin player if music is your thing. Just my humble opinion.

If your scores dont improve, then find a four year school you can afford and which matches your scores where you will be with kids like you.

Thank you for your honest answer!

I will retake the SAT, I want to double major in history and computer science though so violin won’t be my focus and I really, really like the campus and all the college has to offer. I only pointed violin out as it is my only steady extra curric.

I guess it might be better to try for Spring 2015!

Also, do you (or anyone else) recommend things I should do leading up to my Spring 2015 application? I will be doing a 2 week volunteer program in Africa this summer. I am not sure what else I should do for extra curric. and besides the SAT.

Thank you!

Extra curriculars help in pointing out your interests and what you bring to the table for diversity and how you might give back to Fordham whiole there. They count. But SAT is the name of the game. Are you a URM?

Transfers I have no idea what the requirements are other than they view SAT as “likelihood of success at Fordham.”

It doesnt hurt to try now and see what happens. But register for the SAT asap anyway.

I dont think they have to report transfer SATs for statistical figures. That helps. But I am not certain.

Its a great school but also rigorous. Good luck.

I’ll something identify as part Spanish (I’m half Dominican, and half Italian) but most of the time I tick myself as Caucasian or both. Does it really make a difference in admissions?

If I had some more credits, I wouldn’t have to send in my SAT scores but you need at least 30 credits to be exempt from that…I suppose I’ll call the school on Monday and ask some admissions questions such as if transfers are allowed to reapply if they don’t get accepted. Also some of the credits I currently have are from AP classes and a CLEP test so I am not sure if those would be counted, so I’ll as that too…

In any case if I have the chance to reapply, I probably will try to get in now, but I do agree I should retake the SAT if I will have no choice but to send it in next time I apply.

I don’t mind rigor or having to take core classes, I really want that type college experience…thank you!!
