Hi,

I'm looking at transferring from my current school for the Fall 2012 semester. Currently, I'm in my Sophomore/Junior year (my degree plan at my current school is more of a five-year plan than a four) at University of Arkansas-- Fort Smith. I've been looking around at Universities I would like to transfer to. However, the only one I've really fallen in love with is University of Michigan-- which is regrettably very selective.

I'm going for my B.A. in English/Writing.

Stats:

High School
GPA: 3.5
Clubs: National Honor Society, Foreign Language Honor Society, Band (Officer), DECA, French Club (Treasurer)
Pre-AP/AP: Pre-AP English, AP U.S. History
Graduated with Academic Excellence
ACT (No Writing): (highest) 25 (cumulative) 24.
Subscore of 31 in Reading and 28 in English.

University
GPA: 3.2
Clubs: Founding Staff of University's first online newspaper, The Lions' Chronicle
Dean's List first semester
Hours Taken: 63 (some non-transferable)
Volunteer Work: Work as an eMentor for In2Books (online mentoring program promoting reading in grade school youth)

I'm aware that my current GPA isn't exactly spectacular. I got sick during my Sophomore year and did pretty horribly in my classes (which will be addressed in my essay as the "Sophomore Slump"). However, I've gone back and fixed the courses relevant to my major and received an A in each class I've retaken. Also, I pulled a 4.0 last semester.

My adviser says that if I can pull off a high GPA this semester as well to show at least two semesters worth of solid improvement, then I should stand a chance.

Also, I was looking at taking my SAT before applying since I was told not to bother taking it in high school (thanks guys, really). However, I've read that most schools won't accept SAT scores unless they were taken during high school. Thoughts?

I should also be able to get a professor recommendation or two.

So-- verdicts? How bad are my chances? Also, any advice on similar schools to check out?

I'm also considering MSU, Ohio State, and Kentucky University. University of Arkansas is my fail-safe school.

Thanks for the help!
