Chances of transferring to Vanderbilt/Duke/Cornell/Washington & Lee/Emory?

Hi,

I am currently a freshman at New York University studying Sports Management with a minor in finance. I like it so far, but have always loved Vanderbilt, Duke, Cornell, Washington & Lee, and Emory and wanted to see what my chances would be applying as a sophomore transfer.

My high school stats aren’t representative of how well I can do/am doing in college so far, but show the type of kid I am when it comes to extracurriculars. I have a great essay topic and outline I can use that should help me as well.

High School stats:
*My high school was very competitive and one of the top public schools in the nation.
GPA: 3.1
ACT: 30
Extracurriculars:
-Captain of varsity basketball team for 2 years (member for 4 years)
-Varsity baseball (4 years)
-President of large community service organization for my town
-Class Council (2 years)
-Countless other clubs and organizations as well as awards (both from my town and school)

College:
GPA: Only in my first semester, aiming right now to be around a 3.7
Extracurriculars:
-Managing basketball team

  • Sports Business Society
    -Quantitative Finance Society
    -Politics at NYU
    -Marketing Society
-Was Published on ESPNW for a panel that took place at NYU

I have much more to show for myself than what I posted, I just wanted to show a broad overview of myself and see what you guys think my chances would be transferring to some of these schools for a Fall 2016 transfer.

Also, would applying as a freshman to be a sophomore transfer hurt my chances? I have enough credits to transfer but not sure if they prefer older students.

Thanks in advance for help!

Also, I’m not sure about which school I’d transfer into, but probably the easiest school to transfer into just to get myself in first then figure things out.

Duke over-enrolled the freshman class this year, so I bet that they will take even fewer transfer students than usual. They usually only accept around 5% of transfer students anyway.

Duke, Cornell and Vandy are very difficult to transfer into – much more difficult than fresh admission.

Bentley and Babson have minimal sports. UMich and BC would be reaches with a 3.2 GPA.

I just finished my freshman year at NYU. I’m studying sports management and earned just over a 3.2 for the year. I started off strong with about a 3.6 in my first semester and had just about that in the second semester but one academic issue caused it to drop.

I realize now I definitely want to be enrolled in a business school but don’t know if my chances of getting into Stern are good. I also am not a huge fan of living in the city for college, I am desiring a college environment with a true campus and sports as well.

My extracurriculars are great and will give me an extra boost with schools - I’m not worried about that. My high school GPA was about a 3.1 with a 30 on the ACT and combined score of 1880 on SAT’s.

Any advice? What schools should I look into transferring into with my current GPA? Ideally a business school or once I get in with a transferring into it or studying economics in the CAS.

I have been thinking about: UMich, UGA, BC, Wake Forest, Bentley, Babson. Those are just schools I like, haven’t done much research on their transfer req’s.

Any help is much appreciated!
