I am a freshman at NYU and I can’t stand it. I am currently in the process of applying for transfer to a different school and I would love some input on my chances at these schools
High school: GPA - 3.68. ACT - 33
various ec’s, president of a few clubs, etc
College: GPA - 3.675 (first semester).
Haven’t done many EC’s yet in college besides write an article for the newspaper
I think you have a decent shot at GW and Emory. Some of those schools (Brown, Penn, etc.) would be an extreme reach/nearly impossible given your high school and college GPA.
NYU is just not like normal college at all. Everyone is separated and nothing really brings everyone together. Its hard to make friends and that is coming from a very social person. Its kinda like being 25 and living in the city. In terms f academics, I have been underwhelmed by most of my professors and the work. I honestly felt more challenged in high school.
I haven’t declared a major yet but will most likely choose a major when applying, at least for the sake of the application, rather than applying as undecided.
I am most interested in Northwestern, but also Penn and Cornell. I know these are all extremely difficult to get into and my chances may be low. Do you guys think they are still worth applying to? I really want to be academically challenged in a medium to large size school, but I’m not too crazy about the overwhelming presence of Greek life at schools like UNC, UVA, and Vanderbilt. Northwestern seems like a great fit for me but with a 12% transfer rate should I even apply?
sorry about that @philbegas. I didn’t realize that was supposed to be a question. As for safer choices, I am applying to the University of Georgia which I believe I will be able to get into. I am also fairly confident in my chances for GW.
I am still most interested in Northwestern and Brown. I know they are both super difficult to get into and I am by no means a guarantee, but I really do love both of the schools and would regret it if I didn’t at least apply. Does anyone have any insight on my chances at either of these two schools or any of the others on this list?
It’s OK.
Have you looked at the common data sets for all of these?
GWU has a transfer admission rate of over 50% so you’re probably pretty set for that one.
yeah I have looked at the common data sets. I’ve also looked through lots of threads that showed stats and the decision. That is what is keeping my hope alive for these schools. I saw a good amount of students get accepted with lower statistics than I expected. Especially for Spring term at Brown.
