Note: Participating institutions are not obligated to waive their application fee for every fee-waiver user who applies. Please speak to the admissions staff at the institution before submitting your College Board fee waiver application.

^--That's the message I get on Common App when I put that I am paying with a Fee Waiver.

My question is this; what are my chances of being denied? I was told by my counselor that I should only be worried about being denied if my Family Income info is not legit. I have reduced lunch, but from what I have seen up here various colleges have different standards for qualifying for the Fee Waiver. I believe (not quite sure at the moment), that my family income is $60,000. My mom is a single mom and I have a twin brother.

The early action deadline for the school I am applying for in Oct. 15th. If I were to mail this slip in today, and they get it and deny me AFTER or ON the 15th, will I have the option of still paying or will it be too late for me to apply for early action?

EDIT: I meant to put "Chances or "What Ifs" of College Board Fee Waiver" as the title.

You need to go to the admissions website of the school in question or contact the school directly. The school decides whether or not to accept fee waivers and they are not obligated to take a fee waiver. If the school states that it does not take fee waivers, believe it.

For example CUNY only accepts their own fee waiver. They do not accept the college board or NACAC fee waivers.

Howard states on the following on their website:

If the school does not take a fee waiver, you will not only waste the fee waiver that you could have used somewhere else, but your application will not be processed until you pay the fee.

If you are absolutely sure that the school takes the fee waiver, then submit the fee waiver via snail mail.

The common app may simply be posting the message as a warning because not all schools take fee waivers even though they will allow you to submit your app through the common app. This is their way of covering themselves so that people do not come back complaining about the common app accepted their fee waiver, when the school itself does not accept fee waivers.

I plan on sending this to Chapel Hill. Here is the info I found through a Google Search:

Office of Undergraduate Admissions
Attn: First Deadline or Second Deadline (specify one)
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
Campus Box 2200, Jackson Hall
Chapel Hill, NC 27599-220

I’m applying Early Action, so would that be considered First Deadline?

If you have any questions on where to send things, please contact the admissions office at the school in question. Although there are many experienced posters here on CC, procedures can change from year to year and it’s much wiser to get the info directly from the school.
