I was just wondering how many people are on the waitlist. I did regular waitlist, is it possible that I will get in? I'm on the waitlist for all engineering majors (except ECE) and I also opened my application up for admission to the mellon college of science

You can call them up on the 14th and ask. They have to go through the people on priority before regular though so they would have to have quite a number of open spots to get to regular.

Yesterday the WSJ published a story on waitlists. It was depressing. There was a statistic for Carnegie Mellon, over 5000 placed on the waitlist (it didn’t say how many accepted a place) and only five were admitted. But as the story made clear, every school has quite a bit of variability; with the number on the list and the number admitted varying.

This is truly depressing. Waitlists just string you along. CMU acts like it will be an admission – even offering the financial aid package, sending an e-mail with a big announcement day on May 7.

Why are they doing this? Is is really worth their effort?

Most students will have moved off to working the acceptance to another college – housing, orientation, deposits.

wow that sucks I guess I won’t be going then
