Chances...opinions...

I'm looking mainly in the Northeast, some of my favorite schools are (in order)
Tufts
Cornell (my brother attends, i'm attending their summer program this year for six weeks)
Wesleyan
Boston U
Colgate
UVA
Boston College
Providence

I would LOVE to go to Brown, but I've pretty much ruled it out as hard to get in and hard to be competitive if I were accepted.

Basically, I'm a white male living in a suburb of NYC, no financial difficulties or minority status.

GPA (Approx)- 98.1 (weighted)
Rank- Top 5%
AP US History and AP Chem Junior Year
AP Bio, Psych, Calc AB, Spanish, and English Senior Year
SAT-
1380 (old) 680 Math, 700 CR
2070 (new) 670 Math, 690 CR, 710 W (retaking)

SAT II-
690 (Bio)
taking Chem, Math IIC in May

EC's (My strongest area)-
(various lower offices in soph/junior years)
Editor-in-Chief of Yearbook
Layout Editor of school newspaper
President of Spanish Club
President of Poetry Club
Spanish Honor Society
Director of Leo Club
Compact Team Representative (from school government to Administration)
Players Club Secretary (8 year member), two Helen Hayes Nominations
Science Olympiad co-President
8 Years Altar Serving at Local Church
Over 500 Hours community service at local Hospital, winner of local award

So should I stick with these schools? I've tried to research based on student experiences, my chances of getting in, etc, and I would really like some more opinions on my stats and on different schools that might be worth my consideration. Basically, i'm stuck in the Northeast, and I would like to be challenged in college while still being able to access a healthy social scene.

Thanks so much for your help!

ooh, almost forgot-

i took 3 years of latin and won a few awards with the national tests

and i plan on majoring in bio--will my SAT II really hurt me if I apply for bio?

Your SAT's will probably hurt you a bit...

Bio 690? Don't go in Pre-med or Bio-they'll definitely see it as a weakness
But your EC's are great- although colleges might see you as the "try anything" kind of person because they are so varied.
Then again, I would love to be President of everything...

I'm retaking the SAT's- probably in the fall, hoping for at least 2150

Is it better to go into an easy major and not really enjoy the courses, then switch?

Anything over 2100 would make Tufts, Wesleyan, Colgate, BC, UVA, and Cornell a good bet considering your EC's.

BU and Providence are safeties, i'm assuming. you might even get a good scholarship at BU

are a lot of people disappointed over the scores/curve on the new SAT's? people seem peeved

do you think I need more safeties? i'm trying to go with a lot of match schools if i can

Don't worry about standardized tests...they have little bearing in college admissions...at least as far as getting one into college.

I recommend taking it 1 more time, and trying for a 2200...anything over a 2100 would be awesome too. you have to remember...only like 6 schools have average SAT's above 1450 today...I applied to five of them, got into two, denied at one, and waitlisted at the last with pretty good other stuff, with my eqivalent 2300 (80M/75V/75W)...I recommend that you just chill, try and get a 2200...but don't worry...intangibles are more important in distinguishing yourself.
