My gpa is a 3.3, SATs are 2130, and my extracurriculars are not so stellar.

Freshman year I didn't care about school so I had a 1.9. Sophomore year I picked it up and got a 3.8/3.9 for sophomore and junior year, respectively. Surprisingly, I'm still in the top quarter of my class at one of the best public schools in the state. Junior year had two honors courses and senior year is gonna have 3 AP courses. I'm wondering how much that freshman GPA is going to matter.

On my SATs, I got a 670 on reading, 800 on math, and 660 on writing. I plan to take subject tests in the fall in chemistry and math.

For extracurriculars, my only club is the equivalent of a student council. However, during junior year I was working 30 hours a week at jobs, while maintaining my grades.

My main schools at the moment are the University of Pittsburgh, Johns Hopkins University, and Cornell University. Any thoughts on whether or not I'd get in would be greatly appreciated.

Hopkins and Cornell are going to be extremely difficult for you, in all honesty - I can’t speak to Pitt, but it may be a better possibility. I don’t mean to be negative, but with your GPA/ECs, schools like Hopkins/Cornell aren’t going to be very realistic. I would focus on finding some matches and safeties you think you could be happy with.

Also to add onto the extracurriculars as I would on an application, I skateboarded and snowboarded heavily for the high school years, making videos and organizing competition trips.

I really don’t know about Cornell or Hopkins because there are so many qualified applicants, anything bad will be counted against you. You have to be just about perfect to get into those schools that that 1.9 freshman year isn’t. It’s going to be extremely difficult for you unless you have the most spectacular recs, essays, ECs or circumstances. Pitt should be fine, I think you’ll get in easily there. It’s really not that difficult to get in. Good luck.

about my recs, they should be very good. my physics teacher was very eager to write mine, and i finished calc with a 100 final grade so she was very happy to write one too.

Cornell is impossible with an SAT score and GPA like that. On top of that, you severely lack in extracurriculars for an ivy. However, your chances of admission never reach zero; instead, they asymptotically reach zero. If you can stun admissions officers with your essay, Hopkins and ED and Pitt should be within reach.
