Would like to know chances for Cornell, Johns Hopkins, UNC CH, Pitt, University of Toronto

I am a junior in high school and have received most of the information I will need to apply
btw: im looking at arts and sciences for Cornell
My GPA unweighted is 3.75 and weighted is 4.933
SAT: 1500 (780/720)
ACT: 33
I have only taken each of these tests once without studying and am contemplating taking the SAT again
my class rank is only 70/370, as my high school is of the best public high schools in the country
EC: I play varsity tennis and football, in quiz bowl, volunteer building playgrounds, project grad, in summer a job as a camp counselor
As for classes, Ill be looking at 9 APs by the end of high school with no standard classes all 4 years.
I would love to know what people think are my chances for some of these schools

what major?

out of curiosity (b/c so many students say this & I really don’t understand it): why did you take the SAT & ACT without studying?

are you instate for UNC-CH?

are you recruitable for tennis or football?

@collegemom3717 personally I don’t believe in “studying” for standardized tests either, except maybe looking through a test or two to get familiar with the types of questions. it’s “basic” stuff that you either know or you don’t

GPA is good, test scores on the low end for Cornell, UNC - ECs are decent. You have a good shot at the others though. Maybe hone in on one thing you’re interested in and really expand on that - do something impactful related to this! It seems that colleges want students with a spike, rather than someone who is well-rounded (which you certainly seem to be).

Chance back? http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1986243-chance-me-where-to-ed.html#latest

I’m hoping molecular biology and genetics

I live in Chapel Hill. I don’t want to play football in college, and am unsure the tennis level at cornell. I am undefeated on a team which is 7 in the state but I dont play a top 3 seed. I didn’t study for the SAT and ACT as a baseline so that my parents wouldn’t have to pay for classes. I’m not a genius by any measure. I got extra time because of severe ADHD and anxiety. I don’t wish to take the ACT again but will be taking the SAT and two SAT subject tests in JUne. My parents are only willing to pay for one hour with a counselor in preparation

I would disagree with you about UNC, but I see your point in reference to Cornell, which is really a stretch. I live in Chapel hill and over 75 students from my high school are accepted each year to UNC

Additionally i don’t feel good about it. It urks me that students can take thousand dollar classes and study tons of books and superscore 8 different SATS

Yeah your standardized test scores are great for chapel hill lol, a 33 is 75th percentile

You will get in at Pitt. Apply early and send both SAT and ACT score. Class rank might limit merit.

“but will be taking the SAT and two SAT subject tests in JUne”

You can’t take the SAT and SAT subject tests on the same date.

Why?

Do i seem to be a spike or well rounded? Im confused haha

@nickkraut, you can prep for the SAT for free. There are lots of online and library-available materials.

There are at least two reasons to prep: one is to be familiar with the test, so that you can use your time efficiently rather than trying to figure out what the question is asking for, and to be familiar with the standard ‘tips’. The other is to brush up on specific elements that you either didn’t really get in class or used so long ago that you are rusty on them. This is especially true with something like math, where there are questions on material you might not have seen in 2-3 years. For example, some people take it in grade 8 or 9, so by grade 11 a lot of that can be pretty rusty.

Applying to selective colleges is a job, and not doing basic prep is like going to a job interview without doing any homework on the company you are applying to: sure, you might be able to wing it and get the job- but you show yourself to better advantage by looking up what they do, what their focus is, etc. and being able to talk about that. Does it matter for a burger joint? not very likely. Does it matter for a professional firm? absolutely.

I don’t see your point. how can I brush up on math when I got a 780 without studying. I got a 39/40 subscore on both math and reading, with a 33/40 subscore on writing

thankyou. I would rather go to cornell or JHU but as I understand the molecular biology and genetics program at Pitt is still fantastic

@nickkraut , this is straight from the Collegeboard’s website:

Important Information: SAT Subject Test Policies

You can take up to three SAT Subject Tests on a single test date.
You can’t take the SAT Subject Tests and the SAT on the same test date.

https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat-subject-tests/register/test-dates-deadlines

Then if you are near perfect in math and reading, work on writing.

Do just the writing section on the free SAT practice tests and then look at the wrong answers, and why you got them wrong.

Pretty poor for Cornell due to your weak EC involvement. Are you in-state for UNC?
