hi i am currently at one of the top rated if not the top community college in california, looking to transfer to a major university for journalism however i have not been able to find many schools other then usc, nyu to transfer to and am scared that they will reject me and i will end up nowhere. My current gpa is 3.55 and i have taken 55 quarter units so far. i am also in a special position due to a program i was in called middle college which during my senior year in high school allowed me to do my freshmen year in college simultaneously. my average courseload is about 14+ units per quarter. I am in my second year at my community college and after the next two quarters I am hoping to be at a 3.75 area. My high school stats are pretty bad ...i graduated with a 2.9 gpa and 1180 SAT. What are my chances at NYU/USC?and what other schools should i look at?

Hmmm...I also graduated from a middle college...By any chance did you graduate from Academy of the Canyons? Well, in any case are you doing the honors program at your jc?

haha no i didn't do that program. I am not currently in the honor's program. What do you think my chances are for Nyu/usc?

thanks!

WHy ccc do u go to?

U have an pretty good shot at USC if u did ur prereqs and their general ed.

Why don't u apply to some UC's?

I go to de anza college. What do you think my chances are at nyu?

Also, i would apply to UCs, but im pretty sure journalism isnt a major at any of them!

I'm not sure about your chances w/ USC or NYU but as for looking up other schools w/ good journalism programs this resource may help...

Its a good place to start finding your target transfer schools.

thanks for the info! I still have my heart set on Nyu or Usc though...if anyone can let me know my chances for those two i would really appreciate it!

I'd still apply to UC as a safety. Consider some alternative majors. English and Communication are two that come to mind.

hmm you make a good point although I do have a question... what exactly is communications?

As a science major, i have no idea. I just know my school has classes and actually a department. Some many hot girls do that major, it's unbelievable.

It's also extremely popular as it is an impacted major at ucla.

here are some more info about it from ucla's website

About the Major
The major in Communication Studies is an interdisciplinary program leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree. It seeks to provide students with a comprehensive knowledge of the nature of human communication, the symbol systems by which it functions, the environments in which it occurs, its media, and its effects. Employing critical and empirical approaches, the major draws its resources from the social sciences, humanities, and fine arts. Two areas of focus are offered: the concentration in mass communication centers on formal and institutional communication systems and the macrocosmic social contexts in which they function; the concentration in interpersonal communication centers on face-to-face communicative interaction in the small group environment.

thanks again for all your great info :) also i was wondering...is it possible to double major when applying as a transfer? and if so, does this increase or decrease chances of acceptance? I am considering applying for psychology major too but i was wondering if its possible to apply for both as double major if I have finished both the prereqs?

I heard from a ucla counselor that each applicants applies only for one major. They don't look at ur alternative major nor do they ask u if u want to double major.... Once accepted u tell them about ur desire to do so.

Psych is also an impacted major. Not quite like communications.
