chances please + need suggestions for safeties, matches

Hi everyone, please check out my stats and please post what you think about my prospects for Amherst, Cornell, Pomona, Wellesley, and Rice.
Also, any suggestions for matches and safeties would be greatly appreciated.

-currently an Asian junior at a top private high school in Texas

STANDARDIZED TESTING
SAT: M700, V710 (Oct 2004); M740, V750 (Jan 2005); ? (New SAT, March 2005)
SAT Subject Tests: Bio (Mol) – 700; Chem – 650; Chinese (Listening) – 720; Writing – 790 [taking Math IIC this June]
5 AP exams to be taken this May

ACADEMIC RECORD
9th grade (89.20):
4 regular classes & 1 honors class

10th grade (88.20):
2 regular classes, 2 honors classes, and 1 AP class

11th grade FIRST SEMESTER (92.47):
1 regular class, 4 AP classes, and 1 "advanced" class

12th grade Course Selection:
1 regular class, 3 AP classes, and 1 honors class (the rigor here only looks less than junior year's cuz my school doesnt list after-AP classes as AP)

CUMULATIVE AVERAGE (as of March 2005): 90.51
RANK/STANDING: top 40%ish of a class of less than 140 people
(yes, i know my rank/standing could hurt me - & no, i'm not sure whether my school reports it, but i'm afraid they do)

EXTRACURRICULARS
3 varsity letters in the same sport
a yearbook editor – i’ll be one of the major ones senior year
junior class student government representative; i’m running for next year too but no guarantees
class president at my chinese school
several awards for local piano competitions, private lessons
summers: study-abroad/academic programs
some community service (less than 100 hrs, not really application-worthy)

I’m probably applying ED to Rice this fall, but I know I still need a list of colleges in mind.
Finally, if anyone has any advice about the application/admissions process for any of these schools or ones suggested, please share your wisdom.
Again, I'm asking for chances at Rice, Amherst, Cornell, Pomona and Wellesley. Please suggest matches and safeties, as well.
(I want a liberal arts education; i'm probably going into the humanities or social sciences.
I prefer urban or suburban settings but will consider rural.)
Thank you!!

Your test scores are fine, but your rank isn't that hot. Top FORTY percent? Usually schools want from the top decile or the second decile. How about Bucknell? It's pretty rural. I applied there and I liked it.
I think you're okay for Wellesley though. I loved their campus, it was so beautiful!
You definitely need some really good safeties. Skidmore? Smith? Villanova?

How many classes do you take every year?

Is it just FIVE?? i noticed that you took five every year except for junior year when you took Six classes? Why is that??????

Can anybody tell me my chances?

I'm a sophomore at a VERY small school in rural Missouri.

TEST SCORES: 27 ACT composite score (plan to take again)
GPA/RANK: 3.9--/top ten percent in a class of 30-some

EXTRACURRICULAR: Varsity Letters in two sports, FBLA district president, several clubs, national honor society, class officer

I know I seem eager, being only a sophomore, but I want to go to maybe Columbia or something like that. I need to know what I need to do to prepare. Should I take the SAT as well?

Stain, did you visit Bucknell? Also, can you elaborate on the reasons for your interest in that school? Thanks and I hope you get an admit letter if you haven't already.

JMione, yes i only take 5-6 classes each year. The absolute max # of classes one can take is 6 (due to scheduling, etc.) and most of the time, the 6th class is a fine art or a computer science, etc. at my school. That's why I have 6 classes my junior year cuz I'm taking a fine art.
How many classes do you take every year? (My school doesnt count lunch or physical education as a class...)

Katie, not to be rude or anything, but I recommend starting your own thread if you're interested in the maximum input for your chances.

Holy Cross and Colgate -2 very good schools with Holy Cross having better location-1 hour from Boston.

you dont have many ppl in your class, and your school seems to be strong..
try to get ur rank up to 20%
thats what top colleges want

you realize 720 for chinese isn't very high right ? are you a native speaker ?
