I am currently in a public school. There are 278 students in my class and I am number 36. My weighted gpa of freshman, sophomore, and junior year is 3.97. My SAT score is 1550 but my math is 660, reading 400, writing 490. I would like to go for Biomedical Engineering. I understand that i maybe going for a far reach( or maybe not) but when I saw the university I felt that it was a good fit for me. Please dont feel shy in saying anything harsh but please keep the language on an appropriate level.

Your GPA is fine, about a match with BU. But you writing and CR scores are awful. You are going to need 600+ in every section to be a strong BU applicant. Your math score is fine, but the others need major work if you want to be a serious applicant.

Thanks that is what im looking for and one more question. Does national honor society help in the admissions process for BU

It helps, but not a lot. It’s just another extra curricular you get to add to your application.

Yeah, I agree with LilyEmery. You should start studying up for the SATs so you can retake them. At the very least, you want your reading & writing scores to be mid 500s…and 600s would be better. Extracurriculars aren’t going to set you apart too much unless you’re doing something extraordinary. I would say that a slew of extracurriculars is the norm for a BU applicant these days. While they certainly are a positive, raising your SATs will be critical both in terms of getting into BU and if you have any financial need, affording to go here.

Im starting to get how these colleges work when they view your app

Get your SATs up and consider taking the ACT or SAT IIs (they are required anyway). Bioengineering majors at BU are the most competitive so you’ll be competing for spots with kids whose SATs are 700+ on every section (same goes for their SAT IIs) so you really need a STANDOUT factor. What are your extracurriculars?

Tennis all four years, volunteer at the hospital (150 hours), volunteer at a rehab center( 30 hours), and 4 different clubs in my school all four years

You look like a good candidate except your SATs. I highly recommend ACTs - I found them much easier and my score improved a lot of my SAT score! Good luck :)

i think you have a decent chance, but your chances will increase significantly if you raise your SAT’s to a 1900+ (or take the ACTs and get a 28+)

Thanks for all the comments, i think the common thing im hearing is the sat part. Im just not a good standarized test taker
