ALSO:
Would I have better chances of getting in if I applied to their General Studies program instead of their Pre-med program?

If you’re trying to get into the College of Biological Sciences, your chances are pretty small. If I were you, I’d apply to CEHD (College of Education and Human Development). It has the lowest average ACT score of all the colleges at around 24; all the others are 27, 29, or 30-31. Good Luck!

I’m beginner about what it takes to get accepted aswell (still a senior in high school), but with all I’ve looked into the stats about accepted students at UMinn, I’d say your ACT score is the one thing I’d really be concerned about. Is there any way you’d be able to take it again and get the results before Dec 15?

Honestly, you’re a bit below the average stats. See if you can take the ACT again. If not: yes, do not apply pre-med because then you have a very slim chance of acceptance.

I would NEVER say to “not apply because your chances are slim.”

ALWAYS apply, no matter what your aspirations are. Apply for pre-med, maybe something happens and you get in. Who knows.

Couple years ago I applied to a public school in California where the out of state acceptance rate was (at the time) very low. I didn’t have anything special stats-wise. Maybe a tad above average for the in state kids but average out of state and I got in. You never know.

Oh, you should apply pre-med because – I just learned this – they see if you’re good enough for you first choice college, but if your not they automatically consider you for any second choice colleges you select and any colleges they think are applicable to your skills/interests (what they see on your transcripts, etc). So basically, they’ll try to admit you wherever they can, and then you can just say no if you really hate the college they admitted you to. Or, you could go and do generals all your first year, get really good grades, and ask to transfer to pre-med.

There is no way to apply “pre-med” at the U. You apply to different colleges and can indicate which major you’re thinking of, but either way, pre-med is not a major. If you’re thinking of applying to CBS, I would definitely re-take your ACT ASAP, whether or not you’ll get it by the deadline, you can send it in late and they’ll still consider it if they haven’t decided at that time. I’m in CBS and have never met anyone below a 28 ACT, but I think there are exceptions. Otherwise, I’d apply to CEHD or CLA. You can always transfer later on. CBS, CSE, and CSOM are the most difficult colleges to get into. For example, CBS had over 6400 applicants last fall, and only 400 got in.
