i think i had a strong essay

still waiting on a reply..what do you guys think? be totally honest, i can take it!
ps if im not accepted into the program can i still be accepted into the school?

idk, i guess it just proves to you that SATs scores do not determine how well you can perform in a classroom setting. soo… do you think i have a chance haha?

You shouldn’t have any trouble getting in to St. John’s period, but you probably will have problems with the PA program, depending on how competitive it is.

As for Hofstra, you will have problems period.

A 940 (for CR and M only which is what most schools count) SAT is very low (compare it to the published stats for those schools, SJU is a 1092- general admission, and Hofstra is 1172).

You have a shot, but I would look at other options, especially if you’ll need aid.

OK? like are you trying to call my school easy and me dumb? i worked hard every year so you cant say my school is too easy and that anyone can get good grades in the classroom because that is obviously not true.

caemin- ok thanks but i applied to a lot of other schools as well…those are probably my top 2 and rutgers but that was for nursing. what do you think about me and rutgers… i may want to switch over to P.A. as well if accepted

and are SATs the only thing they look at? because i applied to northeastern in boston (which has a WAY HIGHER SAT range) and i wasnt denied…

^go over to the Northeastern thread and take a look at the SAT’s of the people who were denied. Your M/CR score is well below that of the posters who have acknowledged being deferred on CC.

The difficulty you face based on what you’ve posted here:

You are applying for very competitive programs—PA and/or Nursing.

You have not taken AP Calc, AP Chem, AP Physics yet you are applying to competitive programs which are focused on the sciences.

Your SAT M/CR combo score is low. It does not support the GPA you have included in your stats. This is why an earlier poster hinted that your school may have a policy of grade inflation.

You may have a chance at St. John’s, but it’s not a safety school because of your M/CR score. Northeastern is a long shot. Hofsta is also a long shot, but not as much of a long shot as Northeastern.

Definitely make sure to have a backup plan as your safety net.

You put that you’re an African American female. I think for Northeastern, affirmative action worked in your favor.

I am an African American female, as well, and I applied to a few schools where the majority of students are Caucasian, and in this case, if not for my grades, that affirmative action may work in my favor for some of them. Just saying.

Regarding my earlier post (post#8)–I’m sorry for the typo. It should have read as:

Go over to the Northeastern thread and take a look at the SAT’s of the people who were deferred. Your M/CR score is well below that of the posters who have acknowledged being deferred on CC.

If you weren’t denied or deferred, I guess you were accepted. I’m very surprised because your stats are quite a bit lower than other applicants who were deferred. Perhaps the URM status is a big boost at Northeastern.

And again, the SATs are the problem. NU is not as competitive as Rutgers and despite any boost you get from affirmative action, it will be difficult depending on the school, and more so because you are OOS

My daughter goes to a NY high school where lots of kids with lower grades than yours get into Hofstra and St. Johns. SATs shouldn’t matter so much since you can obviously do the work. I don’t know about the PA program specifically. Good luck!

I have a 3.4gpa, 1860 on my SATs, have a strong schedule and I got into Hofstra through early action. I got the letter last week. Not only that, but I got offered a pretty large scholarship. I’m waiting to see where else I get in before I do anything, though.

The same way that my GPA is a little lower than it could be, your SATs are a little lower than they could be, but I wouldn’t say that it means you won’t get in.
