Chances? please

I was wondering I any of you guy can tell what are my chances at
UCSD, UCI, UCR, UCB
Verbal-440
Math-560
Wr.-390
GPA: W-4.31
UW-3.98
Volunteer at the hospital
NHS
Took many AP classes
MECHA
SADD
Rank- 5/750

dude, are those sat scores up to date? there is like no correlation between them and your gpa...

yes, they are up to date because I took it on June last year. I also have a lot finals to study. So I no time to study for the SAT.
But what are my chances at the UCs

your low sat score, coupled with your previous sentence's lack of proper grammar shows that you are very weak in english. You should consider boosting your SAT scores by a lot (400-500 points). At the current moment however you have no chances, better luck on the SAT next time.

no offense, but your sat scores and gpa/rank are very disproportioned. Most kids who are ranked 5th will score a minimum of 2000 on the sats and colleges will wonder whats going on with your school. The sat score will get you rejected from all your choices. Boost it by another 400-500 points for a better chance.

ln17:

UCB: Super Reach
UCSD: Reach
UCI: Slight Reach
UCR: Match

Dont give him/her false hope, UCB is a definite reject.

You'll get in somewhere with that GPA, but having such a high GPA and low scores doesn't make your school look too good.

So what you guys are saying is that SAT Determines everything. I know a friend of my that scored 950(old SAT) and got to Harvard University. You don't have to be perfect at everything right? I also got the ELC but the thing is that I'm not so good at writing and also a bad test taker. Please tell me that none of you guy know anybody at your school that are in the top 4% that scored around 1300-1400.

whoever let that kid in made a mistake... you have no chance at any upper uc's but i think u have a shot at ucr... and umm i dont know anyone in the top 20% with a 1300-1400

well no, SATs arent everything.. but the UCs heavily consider SATs. have you thought about taking the ACT? as of now, you can get into riverside and possibly irvine but probably not.

is english your second language? if so how many years do you have in this country?

actually, i really havent heard of anyone score lower than 1500 at my school. Even kids ranked like 383/384 seem to do well above 1300.

with SAT grades like that you will not be accepted. there is a major discrepancy between your grades and your sat grades, which to admissions officers either alerts to cheating or to grade inflation.. good luck.

what scale is that gpa on?

I have a question for you SexiYetiBeast. What are your GPA and SATs? What are your college choices. Do you have enough confident to say that you'll get in to your top choices?. My School is considered one of the competive schools in Riverside county. I just don't think just because of one bad test, it will ruin my four years of hard work. Don't you guys think so?. The score that I gave-1390 was my first try at the SATs. I just took one in October and planned to take another one in December. So by then I think that I'll raise my score to about 1800. I believe that most of you guys pay a good amount of money to have mentors help you study for the SATs. I don't, I never study nor pay any money for tutoring. So if you say that my score is low think again under my circumstaces.

reply? please

Dude, I took it without studying, circumstances only go so far in terms of justifying a very law SAT score. The fact is, you will not get into most colleges with those scores. You shouldn't ask for advice if you can't take criticism, much of which is constructive. If you can't afford a tutor, you could take the initiative buy a book or go to a public library and use their resouces to improve your score.

Actually I don't think anyone has a tutor here, but many people tutor their peers ! :)

You have a shot at riverside though

I wish I went to SexyBeast's school. Automatic 1300's for everybody.
