I'm assuming that your 600s were in verbal. How are your SATIIs? Your broad range of interests plus the fact that you're now in China will help you.

yea... it was verbal..
oh SAT IIs i forgot...

800 in Math II and 780 in Chemistry, and just took German

anyone??? please...

also.. i was wondering... no question about the fact that pomona is as academically achieved as any ivy leagues...but is it as hard to get in?
i mean.. for all the ivy leagues,, most people with great stats just are rejected because of lack of spaces// is admission that serious for pomona too? and other LASs for that matter?

Because LACs are smaller in size than Ivy League schools, the competition can be just as intense, but I sense that some students apply to Ivies primarily for the name recognition and familiarity. Schools would like their student populations to be as close as possible to microcosms of the world, so an optimum entering class would contain representatives of many states and countries. Some qualified students are rejected because too many other students from that particular geographical area have already been accepted.

That said, I would still encourage you to be optimistic about applying to any school. My feeling is that all they can say is "no," but you'll never know what the outcome might have been if you don't apply.

Good luck!

thanks... good thing noone in our school is applying to Pomona...
any comments on my chances??
i really have no idea about competitiveness of LACs...
people say it is similar to the "lower" ivys... is this somewhat true?

You have just as good a chance as anyone else who's applying to Pomona. The most competitive LACs include Amherst and Swarthmore. Some might argue that Pomona is up there, too; others might say that students who apply to Stanford use Pomona as a backup. Don't worry about your chances. Focus instead on getting your applications in on time, writing strong essays, and doing well your senior year.

actually, pomona is more competitive than amherst then swarthmore, since its admissions rate is lower than both of those, according to usnews. in fact, i've even heard that if you take into account the stats of their respective applicants, pomona was harder to get into than stanford was this year. so yeah. go pomona.

wel... that's really thrilling to hear...

haha you'll be fine. given your location and ecs, you're a strong competitor.
