You sound a bit like me, not specifically, but we have some similar parts of our applications. I went to the top recognized high school (we don’t rank here) in Sweden and graduated with almost all A’s. I got 1750 or something first time I did the SAT, but after 2 more tries and some studying I got 2000 on the SAT. I bet you can improve your score if you use silverturtle’s guide to mastering the SAT and buy the 2 “direct hits: vocabulary” books for the reading section and the essay part.

I assume you are applying next year, right? If not, your SAT might be a bit low since they don’t really care about the story behind the low score. But if you raise your english scores to 600 each, I don’t see why some of those schools wouldn’t accept you. It helps A LOT if you can pay the whole tuition and cost of living, since some schools care less about the applicant’s academic qualities if he/she has money.

Good luck!
