Hey, I am in my junior year and I was wondering if you could tell me my chances at some schools. I plan to major in business. Thanks.

Work Experience (During Summer)
•9th Grade: Windward Golf and Tennis Club: pool attendant (Summer 2005-August 2005, ~20 hr/wk)
•10th Grade: Petsmart: Cashier (May 2006-August 2006,~35 hr/wk)

Presuming that the reason you included the Algebra course on this list is because it was taken the summer prior to 9th grade, your GPA is as follows:

Freshman year: 10As 1B 1C = 3.75 UW 3.92 W (2 honors courses)
Sophomore year: 7As 4Bs 1C= 3.5 UW 3.5 W (no honors courses)
Junior year: 6As = 4.0 UW 4.0 W (no honors courses)

Total: 23 As 5Bs 2Cs = 3.7 UW 3.77 W
Projected if get straight As in Junior Year: 29As 5Bs 2Cs = 3.75 UW 3.81 W

Without the Algebra grade:

Total: 23 As 5 Bs 1 C = 3.76 UW 3.83 W
Projected if get straight As in Junior Year 29As 5Bs 1C = 3.8 UW 3.86 W

Obviously, excellent UW GPA--but it shows that you took pretty much the easiest courses, not the toughest (until the Senior Year when you are taking a ton of tough AP courses). Also, most schools will discount the PE grades senior year--so that moves the GPA down a little.

Still, based upon the GPA and test scores of 1060/1600 which is 1590/2400,
your chances at these schools are as follows:

Indiana University-Bloomington--Safe Match

Purdue University--Match

Michigan State University--Match

Florida State University--Safe Match to Match

University of South Carolina--Match

Auburn University--Match

Georgia State University--Safety

UMass Amherst--Safe Match

University of Alabama--Safe Match

University of Mississippi (Ole Miss)--Safe Match

Georgia Southern University--Safety

Kennesaw State University--Safety

If you wanted to, you could probably also get into the following schools:
University of Georgia--Match to Slight Reach
University of Iowa--Match
Ohio State (toughest of this list--it may be a slight reach)
University of Colorado--Boulder--Match
Clemson University--Match
Miami of Ohio--Match
University of Pittsburgh--Match

Here's a link which rates the business schools:

http://bwnt.businessweek.com/bschools/undergraduate/06rankings/

US News and World Report also puts out a ranking--which you can find on the "Business" link of collegeconfidential.

Good luck.

Thank you very much for the response. I was wondering if you can define what a safety, safe-match, and match is?

By the way, I am thinking about cutting my list short to:
(In order)
1. Indiana University Bloomington
2. Purdue University
3. Michigan State University
4. Georgia State University
5. Auburn University
6. UMass Amherst
7. Georgia Southern University
8. Kennesaw State University

This varies slightly in how people use it, but I use this as follows:

Match--Better than 50% chance of acceptance
Safe Match--Better than 65% chance of acceptance
Safety--Better than 80% chance of acceptance

I also use Slight Reach--Between 40% and 50% chance of acceptance
Reach--Less than 40% chance of acceptance

P.S. My son is currently in his freshman year at Indiana University at Bloomington and likes it so far. (His rating of the school: 8/10). He's a business (finance) major.

I thought Indiana University would easily be a safety.

I thought Indiana University would easily be a safety.

I think you are right--I should have rated it a safety for you with that GPA. My mistake. But their average SAT score is about 1681/2400 now (1121/1600), though--which is above yours. see: http://newsinfo.iu.edu/news/page/normal/4039.html

Of course, keep in mind that if you want to get into the business school there as a freshman, they have higher standards--but I think you've already met them with your GPA. If you apply early there, you should be able to get merit scholarship money as well--maybe between $1,000 and $7,500 a year ($4,000 to $30,000 total)--even as an out-of-state student.
