chances please

Hello everyone! I am currently at a university ranked within the top 25 by USNews (not specified for privacy reasons). While I am enjoying my time as at this school, I have found that I am not quite satisfied with the quality of the academics. Therefore, I have decided to consider transferring. I was hoping that you guys could give me my chances at being accepted into these schools:

-Northwestern
-Wash U
-Harvard
-Duke
-Stanford
-Brown
-Columbia
-U Penn
-Cornell

Here are my Stats:

Current Year: freshman

Major: engineering

HS GPA: 3.48 UW

College GPA: 3.76

SAT: 730 R, 790 M, 710 W

SAT2: Math Level 2 - 800

HS ECs: varsity soccer captain, missions trips to 3rd world countries, chess club, Stanford engineering competition (2nd place), youth group leader

College ECs: member of fraternity, member of Formula SAE team

Could you guys please try to give me an idea of at which schools I might stand a chance at being accepted?

pretty good...i would say you have 25% chances getting accepted at any one of those schools...so i am sure you will get in to at least one school from that list :)

thank you...thats good to hear! anyone else have any thoughts??

not bad, maybe a little weak high school gpa

but u have a great test scores

thanks for the input. I was hoping that you guys might be able to list which schools are high reaches, reaches, high matches, etc.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that my race is native american (does this have an impact?).

bump......

I think you have good chances for Northwestern and Cornell. For the others, you have to look good on your essays.

why not wait for one more year?

I want to get into a school with better academics at the end of the year. I wouldn't want to wait another year.

Anyone else have any thoughts on my chances? (also, does race play a significant role in the admissions decision?)

It's tough to help you evaluate your chances without knowing your school. UCB?

i can't specify which school i am currently attending, but it is ranked within the top 20 by US News, if that helps to give you an idea....i still hope that you can give me a chance evaluation of the schools listed.

Johns Hopkins or CMU? :D

I think Harvard, Duke, and Stanford will be high reaches for you for the simple reason that their transfer rates, regardless if your qualified, is extremely low. (in fact, it's a high reach for anyone) Also, since you're an engineering major, I'm assuming that you'll be applying to Cornell's CoE. Although they have a fairly decent transfer rate, they are known for wanting students to have completed the necessary prereqs before admitting them, so unless you have them done, your chances may be low. However, you have extremely good SAT scores for math, which will of course boost your chances.

The best shot you have is at Northwestern and WUSTL. Brown, UPenn, and Columbia are reaches, albeit not as tough as the first four I mentioned.

those are good guesses, but they are incorrect. Thanks for the feedback pellman. anyone else have any input?

why can't u specify the school.....i dont get it...privacy what?

-Northwestern - high match / low reach
-Wash U - match / high match
-Harvard - low reach / reach
-Duke - reach
-Stanford - reach
-Brown - low reach
-Columbia - reach
-U Penn - low reach
-Cornell - high match

It really is helpful to know the school. But, just off of "top 20 school with 3.76 GPA and high test scores," I'd say in at Cornell, WashU, and maybe UPenn or Northwestern. Dunno about the others; Stanford, Duke, Harvard are unlikely.

I can't specify which school I am going to because I am trying not to cut off the ties that I have at that school. You see, I realize that a very likely possibility is that I won't get into any of these schools, in which case I would obviously have to stay where I am. I wouldn't want those around me to get the idea that I am not happy where I am, so I am not mentioning which school I am attending. So that is why I am trying to keep the name of the school private. It is, however, ranked within the top 20 by USNews if that gives you any idea of how the academics are.

brand_182, thank you for your evaluation...I really appreciate it! Could anyone else do that for me? I would like to get multiple opinions in that format. Thanks everybody!

Jim Cramer's lightning round!

-Northwestern - Buy buy buy!
-Wash U - Buy buy buy!
-Harvard - House of pain!
-Duke - Sell sell sell!
-Stanford - <machine gunning="" sound="" effect="">
-Brown - moooo
-Columbia - Sell sell sell!
-U Penn - Stop trading!
-Cornell - Buy buy buy!</machine>

Nice work! I definitely like the integration of the Mad Money theme! Anyone else?

jim cramer sucks...

Um... do you use that screen name for a lot of different accounts? If so, that's just dumb. Otherwise, it's silly that you're afraid of your school finding out. If you're really that paranoid, consider the fact that they "COULD" trace your IP address if you are on campus grounds. Otherwise, how the heck are they going to find out what your real identity is? That's ludicrous.

Anyway, I'd say you have a shot at all of those schools. Definitely in at Cornell, and Northwestern, IMO.

chanman - any thoughts other than your opinion on Mad Money?

ohnoez - no, this is not the sn that i usually use...and believe me, some of my friends can be stalkers in a way that is almost creepy (beyond just facebook stalking via the minifeed)...but i still like them since they are, apart from that, awesome people. thanks for your input on the schools.

does anyone else have any idea on where my chances for admission stand?
