If 3.39 is your FSU weighted GPA, I don't think it will be enough for admission unless perhaps you are economically disadvantaged/first in the family to go to college.

you have a lot of EC's (although that's not necessarily a good thing...sometimes colleges look more at quality, than quantity), and your GPA and class rank are below average for fsu acceptance...

i would say you have a shot if you applied during the first deadline, but if you haven't yet, i don't know what to tell you =/

I have already applied for Fall 2009 admission- I applied Oct 15. I am economically disadvantaged (family income under $20k), but not the first generation in college.

Your EC's are amazing, esp. since they show strong intellect - debate, SGA, drama, etc take work...and your SAT isn't that bad. But you have to admit that your class rank and GPA aren't the greatest. But I'll root for you!!
Another key factor: how was your essay? If you want me to check it out you can PM me.

anyway..
Your ECs are great, but it's such a numbers game these days.
Since FSU is cutting enrollment even more, they are really looking to boost their stats. The 670 on writing will definitely help make up for your CR and M scores, but why didn't you take the ACT? FSU superscores both the SAT and ACT, so it's pretty easy to bring up your composite that way and a lot of people do better on one test vs. the other.

I plan to apply to USF and UCF. I just forgot to take the ACT and was late registering when I did remember. I wasn't aware that you could reapply for the 2nd admissions period- I was under the impression that it was much more competitive 2nd admissions. Thanks for your help!

@plk1981-
lol, CAT is the high school we both go/went to and Scooter Club is like an inside joke from our morning news program.

If you aren't accepted in the 1st application period, they re-evaluate you during the second wave (even though it is more competitive). Your overall SAT score is even high enough for honors admission (because of the writing section), but I'm not sure if they are giving it equal weight for admissions as CR and M. Unfortunately, you can't really do anything about your GPA at this point, but call and get your FSU weighted GPA and post it in here.

Admission into the University Honors Program is by invitation and is based on an evaluation of the entire record that a student has submitted to the University during the general admission process. Students who receive a letter of invitation typically have a 3.9+ weighted high school academic GPA and a 29+ (composite) ACT or a **1910+/B SAT score.

Oh no, I didn't mean that she would get into honors. I was just saying that her SAT was on par with the minimum required for honors admission (just to note it). Her GPA is far too low even for an appeal.

Those minimums are pretty much meaningless for the typical candidate. I'd urge everyone to shoot for the posted average (1265) and above to have any confidence of admission. This would assume the usual APs, challenging course work and EARLY application.

Hey everyone! Thanks for all the input so far!
I am getting really nervous because the deadline is so close. Does anyone have any more last minute chances for me? Thanks!!

I think that you have a laundry list of ECs rather than a cohesive resume that should show your interests and strengths. Frankly, several of them ("Scooter Club" and "National Energy Conservation Society") look made up. Your GPA is very low, and your SAT sits right below the median.

I am not familiar specifically with how tough FSU is for admissions, but I do know that they place a very high stress on GPA/SAT and only use ECs/essays as "tiebreakers".

I spoke with some admissions officers recently, and they explicitly stated that applying Aug 1 vs. Oct 15 does not make a difference in how your application is considered, so that shouldn't be a worry. Applying for fall admission rather than summer was risky, but at least you made it into the first pool.
