Just let me know what you think!

EC's are impressive, but it is ultimately all about the SAT's, if your really serious start prepping

Dino is right and it is not only the SAT, but the gpa. A weighted gpa of 3.58 is very low for OOS. DS came from NC (we have moved to VA) his weighted GPA was much much higher, his uw was even higher than your weighted.

I suggest that you take as many APs as you can. A part of the transcript review for admission is to look at your course load in comparison to what is offered. The weaker the course the load, the harder to defend the gpa. If the school offers 10 or more and you didn't take AP or Honors Lit, or APUSH, or didn't take adv math classes, and not ending with Stats or Calc, but you continued with French is hard for them to understand, unless you want to major in French.

Jump start is recognized by UMD, but you will only be able to validate the course and start in a higher level class, it will not be as if you get credits for that course.

Fortunately for you NC is not as comp to get in as it is from NJ/NY area, where there is a lot of people. Since UMD wants diversity from across the nation and the world they take from everywhere.

It also seems to me that you are leaning towards the ART world, so you might be in a better standing, however, I do not know if they require portfolios for Art

Get the GPA for weight to over the 4.0 marker...take the hardest courses possible, you might want to consider lowering your course load to the hardest, not just taking more courses to get more credits---again most will not transfer over and you will just take validation tests...UMD will still require a certain amt of credits to come through them to graduate. Your AP scores will determine if you get validation for that class. Hardest course load with better grades looks better than the most classes taken with lower grades.

Take the SAT often with the goal of getting over 1300. What did you get on the PSAT? Typically, you just add a 0 behind the score and that should give you an idea.

Good Luck...GO TERPS BEAT TARHEELS

thanks both of you! but first of all bulletandpima, me weighted gpa is not a 3.58, that's my unweighted gpa...up top it says that my weighted is a 3.9 and it should be higher than that after this semester...

Sorry I saw 3.58 = weighted, and read into that you expect it to go to 3.9

You still want the weighted over 4.0 for an OOS, for acceptance, closer to 4.2 for honors, scholars and gemstone...also for any merit scholarship.

Your SAT will be your make or break point in determining reach, match or safety with regards to a 3.9w gpa, and your essays I.E. a 3.9 w with a 1200/1600 OOS , IMHO would put you as a slight reach/low match...depending on your major, def. no specialty schools and no merit. A 3.9w with a 1370, match, probably scholars, and maybe merit. A 3.9 w applying for art and design with a 1370...hello scholarships as long as the portfolio is good

AS you can see it is not cut and dry, it depends on the major, if you want a specialty program or school, and where your residency is from

Good luck
