Hi! I am a 2009 girl and I am VERY interest in Rhodes. I fell in love with the school after visiting campus this summer and I am planning a return visit in a week. I would appreciate any feedback/chances here are my stats:

GPA: around an 80% but I have an upward trend and somewhat of an explanation for my low GPA which I have explained in my application also it is less common for girls have have A+ averages at my school if that makes sense

ACT: 30 composite

Classes Taken (my school does not offer AP english classes or AP history classes until senior year FYI and there are no AP classes offered until junior year and then just a few)

I have take:
4 years of english

6 science classes (Biology, physics, Chemistry, forensics, engineering, AP environmental)
4 years of math (algebra II, algebra III, geo/trig, Calculus)
4 years of history including AP Gov.

i also have been studying ballet VERY seriously for over 14 years and have dedicated myself entirely to the art. i dance 6-7 days/week usually around 20+ hrs /week. i have also recieved an honorable mention in my the distinguished scholars program for dance

i have also volunteered over 100 hours with habitat for humanity in new orleans and am very dedicated as a tutor for underpriviliged DC elementary school children

i have written my essay on my struggle with and overcoming an eating disorder and I feel confident in my supplemental essays as well

On another note... I am planning on applying early decision and was wondering if there was any advantage to apply early to rhodes??

Thank you all!!

If Rhodes is your first choice AND financial aid is not even a remote possibilty then ED could help you. Spend some time with your Guidance Counselor. Make sure the school report accurately describes the rigor of your program and it's grade deflation. Don't assume anything. If they don't do it, you research it and do it yourself.

You have a very good ACT . Play up a meaningful service experience somewhere in your app. You have a shot. Is there another way to calculate your GPA? For example , my D's school was numerical but 90-100 was an A so "all classes above 90" yields a 4.0 although the school didn't see it that way. We just recalculated it, xeroxed the applicable handbook sections and no one ever questioned D about it at any school.

What were you on campus for this summer?

BTW, I know nothing about dance ( I can two-step and waltz if I'm drinking) but other than that....I think you sound like a fit. Good-luck.

I have similar test scores, classes and even the same essay topic (about my ED), and I've been considering Rhodes, but I don't know too much about it. What did you think about the campus? Does it seem like a good environment (challenging but not too stressful)? Friendly people? What else?
Sorry I didn't answer your question... just wanted to see what you thought of Rhodes!

Hi!

I think you guys have a very good shot at getting into Rhodes. Your ACT score is great and it sounds like you have been very involved during high school, which Rhodes is really interested in. I'm a senior at Rhodes and took a very similar path in high school--I was a very serious ballerina until I had a severe ankle injury (can't dance anymore). I also took ballet for 15 years and absolutely loved it! I also tutored underpriliged children--don't tell me your interested in being an English major! I really love Rhodes and have enjoyed all four years here. The campus is absolutely beautiful and the people here are very friendly and always willing to help each other out (maybe because it is such a small school?). The professors are one of the very best things about Rhodes-they really do become like trusted friends and advisors. The courses are challenging but manageable, especially if you have been to a rigorous high school. Best of luck in your application!
