chances @ pomona (I'd really appreciate any help... :) )

Pomona is my dream school, but my parents didn't allow me to apply ED because I'm the first gen to go to college (so they don't have any idea what's going on half the time with applications) and I live in Illinois. Therefore, I had to apply RD, but I really want to show them how much I wish to attend. What could help me out?

Anyways, I was wondering if someone could help me, because no one in my family has ever applied to college before. Here are my stats:

ACT: 33 (I received this twice)
GPA & Rank: 4.6 W, rank 8/300

AP's:
Biology - 5
U.S. History - 5
European History - 5
Psychology - 5
Macroeconomics - 5
Microeconomics - 4
Calculus BC - 4
English Language & Comp. - 4
And, this year I am taking Chem, Government (both), English Literature, Spanish, and Environmental Science, in addition to Calculus III via a college nearby.

EC's (with number of years and positions held):
Tennis 4
Ecology Club 4 (I'm attaching a supplemental form with this one)
Scholastic Bowl 4 (VP, All-Area)
Model United Nations 4 (Prez, All-State)
Cross Country 3
Political & Social Forum Club 4 (Prez)
NHS 2
Also, I have over 200 hours CS, involving public tutoring and visiting homeless shelters and soup kitchens.

Also, first gen. in college, awarded National Honor Roll, Illinois State Scholar, AP Scholar with Distinction, Who's Who in American High Schools (doesn't everyone get this??) and NHS. I also interviewed, and I think that it went well enough.

I like to think that my essays were strong. I had some English majors help me revise them. A few teachers also helped.

are you a minority?

if you are, i'd say pomona is a shoe-in.....first generation status with THOSE grades + minority = magic. if you're not a minority, i think you still have a great shot. good luck!

Mdf--I agree. You have very good stats and stand a strong chance of getting accepted, especially if you mentioned during your interview that Pomona was your first choice. No problem if you didn't; you can still follow-up with your interviewer and reiterate that you really want to go to Pomona.

I was accepted last year, and looking at your credentials, I would say that you have an awesome chance of being admitted. Also, Pomona adcoms give extra weight to number of aps taken and ap scores, so in that respect, you have an excellent chance.
