The UVa forum is a fantastic forum. I personally think that it's one of the best on CC because we have so many current students, current UVa parents, and alumni who post here. I think there are better ways to tap into the great information these people have than to ask them about admission chances.

Unfortunately, I feel that our forum gets cluttered with chances threads posted by those who aren't aware of the dedicated sub-forum. I don't know if it will work, but I thought I'd post a thread addressing this to see if we can cut down on the chances clutter and keep the more interesting or more pressing threads on the front page.

Good post. I have definitely noticed that this forum, as of recently, is being mobbed by chance threads. Kids are getting really nervous as the deadline approaches.

For anyone that is going to post a chance thread (I’m a victim of the chancing bonanza) don’t bother. Sure it is nice to hear from some people that you have a good chance of getting in, but honestly the chances people give are often meaningless.

None of us, other than Dean J, are admissions officers (to the best of my knowledge). UVA takes a holistic approach to admissions and looks at the entire package a student presents. Grades are always going to be more important than SAT or ACT scores. Did you take the most challenging curriculum you were able to? Excel in those courses? Participate in extracurriculars, emphasizing depth over breadth?

Ask yourself those questions. You should know what your chances are.

Shouldn’t the link to the chances forum be up at the top of this board, along with the UVA 2013, et al? The only way someone who comes in here gets a hint of the chances forum is to see the usual threads that then get referred to the other forum (without a link to it). Better usability might cut off those threads before they get started by having a highly visible link right to said forum.

I agree. The current way doesn’t seem to be working. If I were in charge, I’d probably have a chances forum right here specific to UVA and obviously visible.
