Also, if any family members went to BC, that'd be a huge help. A kid from my high school got in with a 2.5 GPA and 850/1600 SAT but that's because practically his entire family went there.

Wow, what a boon legacy is. My sister went to Harvard, which is in the neighborhood. Does that count? (I didn't think so).

That doesn't count. BC does not care that your sister went to Harvard. If your sister did some cross studies over at BC then maybe but still that's not a solid legacy. The kid from my school, practically 100% of his family went to BC, so they practically had to accept him. I mean, their stadium is called "Alumni Stadium".

Sure, this is a shameless bump, but dang-it, I'd like some more impressions.

I can give you very good specifics on the three Boston schools if you give me some info as to what you want from the school.

Have you been tracking you application at Northeastern using their site?

I actually just checked my Northeastern status, and they received the last of the materials that they needed from me yesterday.

But application status websites really just serve to freak me out a little more often than I like. They're constant reminders of the peril of the United States Postal system.

Do you have a preference between your 3 Bostonian schools?

Probably B.U..

Good luck getting tickets at Gillette..... Unless you want to pay hundreds of dollars, they are near impossible to get.

"Good luck getting tickets at Gillette..... Unless you want to pay hundreds of dollars, they are near impossible to get."

I think I'll worry about getting into the University, first. Heh.

haha same goes for sox tickets...

I'll get a job as a peanut and popcorn boy, or something; I don't care.

And I forgot to mention in my original post that I'm a hispanic student, and English isn't, technically, my first language. How big of a role does something like ethnicity play in the admissions process?

Any and all comments are greatly appreciated.

Northeastern is 5%, BU is 7%, BC is 8% and Temple is 4%. BC considers minority status, same with BU and Northeastern. Temple does not consider minority status.

Do you know what kind of a bias minority status can level? Like what kind of tolerance does it allow - i.e. a minority student's 3.0 gpa counts the same as a white student's ___ gpa.

No school would ever, ever, ever make that kind of information public.

Additionally, there are too many other factors to consider, such as socioeconomic class. A black student coming from a family making $750,000 isn't going to be given the same leeway as a black student from a family making $20,000.

Well yea, I wasn't expecting hard numbers or anything, just rough estimates based on the matriculation statistics that has amassed over the years.

hm...I still doubt that schools would post anything along the lines of Average accepted white student gpa = x, average accepted minority student gpa = y. It just gives weight to the anti-affirmative action group, which puts schools in a difficult position.

Good point. I never really considered how detailed the statistics they release are, and anecdotal evidence really isn't a help considering how capricious some of these admissions committees can be.

By the way, any thoughts on my chances?
