Hello! So, UMN is my dream school. It has everything I want and I've wanted to attend since my Freshman year in high school. I'm applying for CLA because I want to major in music therapy, so I need to be admitted into CLA before my auditions for the school of music.

I also sent them a letter explaining poor grades Freshman year due to missing a semester because of illness. And then sent them a little essay I wrote about how it has helped me through my life. Tell me what you guys think! Thank you :)

I think you have a decent chance at getting into CLA just looking at other people who have been able to get accepted and the admittied profile of the 2014 freshman. I would definitely apply as soon as possible because they will probably get back to you a little later so send it in as fast as possible. Good luck;I am waiting for my decision to UMN as well :-)

Only 5% of students get accepted into CLA with an act below 25 and your gpa is also below the average, however your ec are incredible so that may make up for it. Plus your special circumstances make up for your low GPA. I think you have a decent chance of getting in and think it’d be worth the shot of applying, however I’d recommend having back up schools. I wish you the best of luck!

What everyone has said is true. Also, if you are in-state (not reciprocity) that apparently improves your chances of admission a ton. And to be honest, if you are not asian or white, you are probably in.

You should check the music site at UMN. I think they may have some additional requirements and tighter deadlines vs regular CLA rolling app.

It may be good to go visit and talk to them so you can talk more about your ECs that apply to music therapy. That may help overcome the U’s emphasis on stats for admissions?

Hopefully someone else will chime in who knows more about the music program(s). Good luck!
