I'm applying this fall and UNC is my top choice, so I'm trying to do my best to get in. Hopefully you can see my huge interest in UNC through my past posts. Anyways, I was wondering if my sat scores are good enough to get in early action.

hmm i think your SAT is fine for instate. i heard that some counties in NC seem to have more difficulty with acceptances than others, but im not too familiar with that. but regardless, they superscore test scores, so dotn worry about the 590 in writing.

Out of all the counties in NC, Wake and Mecklenburg County send the most kids to UNC. I don't know if that hurts or helps me, because some people say UNC doesn't have county quotas while others say they do...

Personally, I think you'll be fine. I wouldn't bother taking the SAT again. Put together a great application, and work hard senior year. Good luck! : )

I have similar stats, instate, 1290 CR+Math ,2000 combined. Not planning on retaking SAT but I'm not a minority either which can benefit you in the admissions process.

cs08carolina- hmm but i dont think being asian would help..most colleges do not consider asians as underrepresented, unless they are south asian. affirmative action certainly does not benefit those who are east asian.

I'm actually south asian (Indian) but I doubt it would matter that much in the admissions process. Are there stats out for those admitted last year?

If I take the SAT again, do I have anything to lose other than money and time. If i do worse on the SAT in October, UNC still looks at the highest scores regardless?

i think you're fine--especially from knowing other people at apex who got in. at my school it was basically like..the top 10% in class rank were accepted, plus a few others. i don't think quite as many at apex get in, but if you're in the top 2% you should be fine.

I'd feel good about getting in. Just apply early and work hard on your app.

The only reason why I would retake the SAT is maybe for some scholarships they might have, but if money is any bit of an issue with you, don't be too worried.
