Hi, I am a sophomore at the moment and I just ended the last semester with a 4.28
I took:
AP Euro (got an A)
AP Bio (Got an A)
Precalculus Honors (Got a B)
English 2 Accelerated (got an A)
Spanish 3 (got an A)
Chemistry (got an A)
Web Design (got an A)

I am pretty happy so far with my grades, although I know I could have easily had an A in precalc. Freshman Year I was not really motivated so I got a 3.3 first semester. Next semester, I woke up and got a 4.0. I am just wondering what my chances would be to get into some top tier schools such as UCLA, Berkeley, Stanford (doubtable), or even Ivy League (also doubtable). I know I am not giving much info with my first 3 semesters, but I just want to know what I should be doing and what schools are possible for me to get into. Also, I plan on getting a 4.5 this semester as I no longer have a 0 period.

Its impossible to say with this information. You aren’t off to a great start with the GPA, but its not bad, plus showing improvement is always a good thing. However, colleges consider far more things than just raw grades and GPA. Class rank, awards, test scores, extra curriculars, and work experience are things we would need to see to give you even a rough chance.

Anyways, keep up the good work and keep challenging yourself. Take APs, get involved in clubs and service and whatnot. Based on the courses you are taking now, it’s pretty clear that your course load will be rigorous enough for top tier schools. Will just come down to grades and all those other things. Good luck, you’re on the right track!

Thanks, I was worried that my GPA already killed me but I am now motivated and determined to improve. Also, I am starting a club next semester with a couple friends for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and will most likely have the highest position. Although I did not play a sport this year, I play recreational soccer and will try out next year.
