anyone? please?

Sweet, debating. Your SAT I score is a smidgeon over average (I think the median SAT is around 2200), but that's including recruited athletes and legacy kids and vunderkind piano players and all that, so higher would be nice. Kudos on the debating, although I'm not sure what you mean by "VERY strong". Are you national champion or something? One of the kids at my school won the world debating championship (team, not individual) a few years ago, so I've got uppity standards now. But he went to Harvard early, and we're still talking Dartmouth.

If you aren't national champion (or at least state champion, or third in the nation or something) that isn't really as great an extra-curricular thingy as one would expect. The dude I mentioned got recruited for debating (among other things), but I'm not too sure about how Dartmouth deals with that.

What's your rank? Your GPA and percentile (and debating) seem like some fairly strong points in your favour (especially if you throw in a good debating essay); the SAT II's seem pretty iffy, though. You should probably redo - weird that you got higher scores on the SAT I.

Thanks, that was really informative. My debate record is long and sparkly - the best I've gotten is 3rd at a national tournament (not NFL Nationals, but a nation wide tournament) including some other nifty awards. Would it be a good idea to talk to the debate coach or something? I'm not sure how I would go about that.

Our school doesn't rank. As I said, I'm in the top 4% out of a class of 570ish. My percentile is probably higher, but again... our school isn't all that helpful with that.

As for essays, I used debate for my short answer, so it's not as powerful of an essay as the long one (about being an immigrant + love of language.) I think the essays are good, but I've got nothing to compare them to.

The disparity between SAT I and II scores... wow, can't explain it. I didn't study for the SAT I, and got a decent score. Studied for SAT IIs, and didn't. hahaha.

If debate is your thing I would definitely contact the Debate Coach at Dartmouth. I'm sure you could get in touch with him/her through Dartmouth Admissions.
