SAT
Math:800
Writing:740
Reading:660

Total=2200

SAT II
Math 2:780
Chemistry: 780

Rank: Top 7 percent.

I had an internship at the University with ONLY graduate students under a chemical engineering professor.

Other than that, i do not have that many EC besides church related volunteers and leadership (I'm the worshiping leader)

Rec. Letter from the professor i worked with, a chemistry teacher that REALLY likes me.
And an English teacher.

Classes Rigor:
IB Math HL
IB Bio HL
AP Gov, Econ,English
Honors Band
Teacher Aide

Ethnicity: Asian.
I'm also from Alabama.

What's my chance?
I heard coming from AL is very helpful. I may be the only one applying from my school or even the State. Possibly.
No one really knows the school you know.

HELP!

Forgot to mention my GPA.

It’s 3.9 unweighted with 4.3 weighted

BUMPPP!
BUMP!
Help me pleaseee

Stats are good, but know that at 7% admissions, it’s hard to say anyone is a shoo-in.

eh, course rigor isn’t that great and ECs are very weak. you don’t show much leadership…

I am not fully aware of Cooper Union, just learned about it a month ago, but I do know that it is equivalent to lower ivies, MIT, etcetera for admissions process/selectivity. Knowing that, you are not too likely to get in. It will be a reach, so make sure you have a fall-back, because it only accepts 250 students per year…

Alabama will help, asian will not. my advice is to get some more leadership opportunities and you will be a decent competitor. your testing and gpa is good enough to get in though

First off, there’s quite a bit wrong with “lower ivies”. But anyway, with a 7% admission rating, it’s right up there with Harvard, which is one of the most selective schools in the country.

Well for showing leadership,
I’ve been the first clarinet for 4 years in honors band.

Worshipping leader in youth band.
Guitarist/vocalist for adult band.

Bible studying teacher.
Guitar tutor for 7 people.
Marchingband section leader for two years.

Yeah these ARE weak. But I barely have anytime to improve my EC.

Any other comments or advices???
Please help!

Okay, I didn’t acknowledge those positions the first time. The EC’s may not be developed, accomplished, or numerous; but they do show a strong passion for music. This is good, because colleges like students being devoted to a few things rather than part of many.

idk how good your hs band is, but first chair is definitely a huge achievement (At least in my school). Is honors band the equivalent to all-state or all-county? If all-state, your chances will be a lot higher. 1st chair at all-state is HUGE.

umm I would go ahead and apply with a hope that you can get in, but please also get some/a fall-back school(s). Your stats don’t guarantee you a spot, and you might need to rely on that fall back.

Yes I’m planning on applying to 3 safety schools as well. I’m also shooting for Stanford. But it’s probably extremely unlikely.
I’m also applying to Cornell and Carnegie Mellon.
What are your thoughts?

I think you will have a decent chance at CM, but cornell will be a bit more of a reach. Stanford is out of the question, but hey. why not try? you only get to apply once, so go for it.
