canadian and russian citizen

speak russian fluently

english second language

went to high school in US

question: do canadian citizens who go to high school in the us get treated as candian or american applicants?

They get treated as american applicants because they went to high school in the US.

What difference does that make? Are there tougher standards for one or the other?

huge difference, much harder to get in as an American.

actually its easier i think...

for americans they look at ur GPA and SAT scores..

harder for americans. they accept fewer.

but less americans apply....

actually McGill is becoming more and more popular for americans.

so then you will probably be seeing a higher percentage of americans going... it is not logical to say that the current growth can be compared to previous percentages of americans going there.

You are assuming a "free market" that doesn't exist as
the number of international students is capped via
an admissions system that reserves places for Quebecers, then other Canadians. The percentage of the student body comprised of admitted American students enrolled has been 15% in 2004, 11.7% in 2005 and 12.4% in 2006 while applications have increased by a higher percentage. Interestingly, the non-US enrollments for other international students has remained in the 9.3-9.6% range.

I think it's a bit harder for Amerians since they look at GPA and SATs, whereas they only require GPA for Canadians. It helps if you have good SATs but if you don't...well..
Also, McGill is a public University, I think that's like state universities in the US like the UC. They'd choose Canadians over Americans if it comes down to it I think.

they have to. in order to remain a public university funded by the quebec government they have to have a certain percentage, something like 70% i think, canadian students, and within that a certain percentage from quebec.
