What are my chances to the University of Florida as an African American.

this is going to be a tough one... you do have a lot of AP courses, but I don't see that reflected in your gpa.. a 4.3 is not very high for the amount of AP's because you get extra points..right? From what I have seen this year, a lot of people who I expected to get in didn't!! I think your SAT is low and will make it very difficult to get in. The people that have gotten in with lower SAT's have had amazing GPA's and are ranked in the top 3% of the class. You can't change anything now and it is just a waiting game... who know's what they are looking for...
Good Luck

Wow, you have taken 13 AP classes? That is impressive. If you have done well in them and passed the exams then you have an excellent chance of admission RD2 as an American period. That you can trace your ancestry to Africa (African American comment) may be a boost in admissions as well since UF made a huge point (in numerous newspapers) of letting the world know that its minority enrollment was up this past year. Your SAT's are really low for UF (most accepted candidates have at least in the 1200's). Playing the French Horn is another hook at some schools but I am not sure if UF is looking for one this particular year or not. But, as I said, given the rigor of your class schedule and your class rank, added to your two potential hooks, admission looks promising for you.

you have a good chance. even though your SAT doesn't meet the min. 1220 you have a strong extracurricular background and course load. you being an african american male increases your chance. as long as you don't have have disciplinary records you have a very strong chance. how many hours of community service do you have? are you planning on pursuing in band? if so you should audition, that may increase your chances as well. one of my classmates in orchestra was rejected from UF but she's going up to audition and that may overturn the decision =)

I have 75 hours of community service and that doesnt include the hours I have been getting from National Honor Society this year. And yes, I recently auditioned for UF's band and orchestra. Alot of African americans/Hispanic americans from my school have been getting into UF with scores in the mid 500's like me and they had only like 3 APs total. They aren't even in top 5% I think they are in top 10% or top 20%. Do they virtually accept all black people? I don't like that idea...

lol...i don't know. two of my black friends were both accepted to UF but neither chose to go there. last year my friend went to FSU because she wanted to keep in touch with her "culture" as she said. and this year one of friends is going to go to FAMU for the pharmacy program. they both had really high stats. UF is recruiting for more african americans and they even offer scholarships. but with your stats i think you would've gotten even if your ethnicity wasn't a factor.

UF also takes your school into consideration . if your school is prodominantly black/hispanic and offers limited AP classes and you take all the AP classes that are available. that shows that you are capable of pushing yourself to do the best and compete in an academic environment.

"Do they virtually accept all black people? I don't like that idea..."
Definitly NOT!!! Our Student Government President, who is balck and has a sister that goes to UF got denied. He has been the president of every class and then SR. year SGA pres. I think it may help you, but a shoe in, NOPE...
I wish you the best of luck

One of my African American friends got accepted with a 1010 and similar gpa, less AP's, and similar EC's. This was RDI which might be different, so I'm not sure what your chances are, though they seem pretty good with all those AP's. Good luck to you!

I still can't believe you mention that you're black... don't you get it? UF is a public school... and under Gov. Bush's "One Florida" program, affirmative action was abolished so that "Talented Twenty" can be in place. So... yeah. The more you know...!
