So I am currently a rising senior (asian female) and I’m trying to make my college list. I’m really not sure which schools I could consider as match, reach, or safety so i would really really appreciate some help on that! Some of the schools that I am considering are Umich (in state), emory, grinnell, northwestern, rice, wustl, and purdue. Here are my stats:
unweighted GPA: 3.99
(school does not do weighted gpa)
34 act w/ 9 writing
5 on apush, 4 ap chem, 4 ap english
Awards: I don’t really have any but I am relatively certain that I will be a National Merit Semifinalist as soon as they release the results because my score was way above the qualifying score for my state from past years.
Extracurriculars:
-symphony band flute section leader
-symphony orchestra flute 1st chair
-marching band section leader
-student council (11,12)
-link crew
-nhs (lol)
-middle school science olympiad event coach
-internship at a chemistry lab
-all state band 4 years
I am working as hard as I can on my essays and I plan to visit some of those schools soon. I think that I have a good chance at michigan (especially bc in state) and purdue, but I am unsure about the others. What do you think?
oh shoot I can’t believe I forgot to mention this but I am planning to apply as some sort of a science major… probably biology
If you can go to Michigan and be towards the top of the applicant pool, that’s a great opportunity for you with the in state pricing.
Unless you qualify for substantial financial aid - many of those other schools might be double the cost.
Go Blue - and add schools where you qualify for merit scholarships
UMich should be a match to low match for you from in state.
I definitely do qualify for great financial aid; most private schools are probably cheaper than michigan for me
Purdue should be a low match and NU would be a low reach.
I only chance for the schools that I am familiar with. I do not do wild guess.
Did you check the NPC for each school? UMich meets the need of all in state students and the pledged to use more grant to reduce student debt.
Oh ok I assume washu and rice and northwestern are all reaches anyway esp because of their low acceptance rates…
Where can you check the npc?
Check College Board and the website of each school. It is mandatory by federal government for each school to provide NPC.
As an update, I will be attending Rice University in the fall paying $3k a year!
Congrats! And also, can you PM me with any advice for coaching middle school Science Olympiad?
