Well, it depends on where you’re tagging. To be considered for TAG for UCSD (as an example), you have to have a gpa of 3.5 by the end of Fall 2011 - meaning, you can use fall semester grades to bump up your gpa if it’s a little below (say, from a 3.4 to a 3.5 - 2.9 to 3.5 is obviously a long shot unless you’re repeating multiple courses to go from a D to an A). You can file and submit a TAG application even if your GPA is below their cutoff, FYI - I don’t know why people are saying you can’t. If your GPA isn’t above the cutoff by the Academic Update (Jan/Feb 2012 for this application cycle), then your TAG app will be discarded and you’ll be treated as a normal applicant. This is straight from an adcom. If the OP can get his GPA to 3.2 or whatever by the END of Fall 2011, then he can TAG for UCSB (granted that all other requirements are met). Stop discouraging him. OP, work on getting that GPA up - if you can manage to get it up to a 3.2, then you’ve got it good.

thx, i think i can get a 3.2 by the end of fall

Just go to a cal stat

Ah, pianocat. A perfect example of someone who had like, a 2.95 in the summer, but was able to raise it above a 3.0 to TAG to UCSD.

See, stevo - successful examples of sub-3.0-to-3.0-in-one-semester-transfers exist! You can do it.

Asphyxiac. So they GPA after Fall is really what counts when it comes to TAG?

So I currently have a 3.0 right and since UCI raised it to a 3.2, I can work for my 3.2 over Fall and update my grades after I get my Fall grades, correct?

As a person who had the same exact situation except I raised my GPA to 2.94 by fall semester (but now I’m at 3.1) The only schools you will have a good chance of being accepted to are UCM, UCR, and possibly UCSC. I had a high upward gpa trend in my grades and I applied to all the UC’s that you applied to except for UCM.

If you raise your GPA to 3.1+ (which you can, CC is really easy, I fret everyday about how I could of put a little more effort in my schooling to get a 3.5+ GPA each semester), you will then have a moderate chance at UCD, UCSB and a low chance to UCI (they read personal statements, so GPA is not the only factor for them).

TAG won’t work because the op needs a 3.2 now, not by fall semester. That only applies to SD where op would need a 3.5 .

Hopefully you can raise your GPA way higher though by summer and fall, and end up going to a good school, good luck to you!

@dashtiani

I spoke to a UCSB admissions officer about this last year, and she said that the TAG GPA had to be achieved by the end of the Fall term. Why would she lie to me? Plus, it says it right there on their contract.

Edit: even more proof.

That’s their TAG agreement for 2012. Read the part where the agreement states the following:

The following GPA requirements apply for the College of Letters and Science TAG. Applicants must:
• Earn an overall minimum 3.20 GPA in all UC transferable course work by the end of fall 2011;

“End of fall 2011” is even underlined for emphasis.

Please stop spreading misinformation, guys.

Also, OP, if you have any other questions - read the TAG agreement carefully and call admissions.

I don’t know if UCI will accept a 3.2 GPA after fall. You will have to check their TAG agreement. I only know that UCSB will take a 3.2 after fall and SD will take a 3.5 after fall.

[Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG)](http://www.admissions.uci.edu/admissions/tag.html)

UCI’s TAG requirements are there. Read them carefully, I am sure that page has the answers to whatever questions you may have.

@Asphyxiac Oh. I don’t think so then. I thought it would be like UCSD with all the TAG’s. Guess it’s only for some then.

Thanks for clearing that up asphyxiac. Most UC’s require a 3.0+ GPA at the time of submission, but UCSD seems to be an exception.

I had a 2.96 at some point and applied to UCSD with a Psychology major and got rejected. I don’t know…I have a feeling it’s much more competitive this year but honestly doesn’t hurt to apply. Good luck!
