Chances to UCLA/Cal

I'm worried about my chances in getting into these schools :(
I'm from a California CC
GPA: 3.857
Major: Mathematics
Finished IGETC
I should also be TAP qualified for UCLA.

The only problem I have is I won't have all my major pre-requisites done for UCLA and am wondering how much this will impact my application. I also feel like I want to drop my current math class which will means I won't have 1 pre-req class for Cal. I've read around that pre-reqs are important for these schools, so what are my chances if I do not have 2-3 major pre-reqs for UCLA and 1 pre-req for Cal.

hey! care to tell which classes you’re missing?

i have a 3.6, and I’ll be missing 3 classes for UCLA math/econ (2 not offered in my CC, 1 might not be able to take) and complete for CAL.

If you’re talking about the discrete math prereq, fear not for Cal. They actually recommend that you take it there, but if you have a class that is equivalent to it, they will take it.

Nope not discrete math, not offered at my CC. For Cal, if I drop my Multi-variable Calc class right now (still deciding), I’ll only not have Linear Algebra left for my Cal pre reqs. For UCLA I won’t have Physics 1C/Comp Science 1 and Linear Algebra if i decide to drop my class.

Not completing the calculus sequence in my opinion is an automatic rejection

Is the Linear Algebra class part of the calculus sequence?

No its not part of calc. Im in that class right now and linear algebra is just algebra. I think you should be fine with 2 prereqs not completed, especially with your GPA and TAP.

Kk, thanks a bunch! And good luck to you!

MMk, thanks for your help! And Good luck to you!

There’s no way they’d let you in for math at Cal if you don’t finish Linear Algebra. You’d be way too behind to graduate on time. Its a prereq for every single upper div math class so you wouldn’t even be able to start your upper div major requirements until the spring if they did let you in. You’d be a semester behind all the transfers and 2-3 semesters behind the freshmen admits since most of them finish the lower division math sequence in highschool or freshmen year.

Kk, thanks! So I won’t drop Multi-Variable and I’ll finish Linear Algebra by Spring.
